Currently taking bets at when a warranty replacement will turn up,
Your guesses please!

In the mean time here is a review I left on their facebook page to try and make people aware of the risk they take:

I've been using Superstar Components for years now and they would have got 5 stars, BUT this is the first time I've had to use their warranty service.
I contacted them on the 15th May and sent a part back (new headset cup that was out of tolerance) and 2 MONTHS! later they still can't give me a date when I'll be seeing a new replacement piece.

That's 2 months of early summer dryness with a broken bike, I'm not sure if I can gamble using them again in the future?

Pretty nasty feeling, being treated like this 🙁

Phill B

...and here is a capture of the following replies:

I really want him to be right BUT, I will not be holding my breath 🙁

I had similar with a wheel where every spoke loosened on the first ride, and by loosened I mean I had to keep on stopping and tightening them up by hand to stop the wheel coming apart. No apology or admission of error, merely emails saying they did free truing and that they used the same machines as Hope. Obviously I just fixed it myself but wasn't very impressed.

Buy cheap FSA headset (which will probably last years anyway) and get on with your summer. If he offered you a refund or alternative from the start it seems like it's you thats being a bit of a bell-end tbh

.....is your name really Philip-Louisa?

Refund.

Why are you waiting for a part for that long?

I can be a bell-end about somethings, however I don't think this is one.

I have never actually been offered a refund unless you count his fabricated comment above.

Each time I finally get a reply to an email (usually takes 3 attempts) I get told that the part will be ready within a week or so, and I've been quite happy to wait a 'short period' for it.

However when it doesn't turn up I get in touch again (3 emails over the course of so many days) followed by a reply (almost another week gone by) to then be told it's practically with them and I only need to hang on a few more days.

Rinse and repeat.

LOL my name isn't really Phillip-Louisa, it was a joint page set up to organise a charity event a long time ago.

I'd guess because the OP keeps on thinking "it's just around the corner, any day now...." and getting strung out by SS.

Time to ditch them and buy one form somewhere else. Anywhere else. Get out riding, and get a refund.

Buy one somewhere else and get your money back.

And I'm sure Neil doesn't deal with the whingers on FB.

I assume you have already got another headset and are not still waiting to ride your bike.

FSA headsets don't come in "lime" so understandable that you wouldn't use the bike while waiting a replacement 😉

Stop buying lime stuff, all components should be black.

Id have just chosen a different colour and not missed out on an amazing summer of riding.

For balance I sent my rear wheel to superstar for a hub replacement under warranty on a Monday and had it back by the Thursday.

If you have genuinely let not having a lime headset cup keep you off your bike for 2 months then yes, you are a bellend.

If you have in fact sourced a headset cup from somewhere else and this is a fib then yes, you are a bellend.

I don't mind it taking sooooo long, I just have a problem with being strung along, constantly misinformed

If I was told at the start that it would be 2 months (plus) wait for the part I would have sorted something else immediately, hence giving people the heads up, buyer beware etc.

Anyway the part is probably in the post already and about to be delivered to my door step, so I don't need to buy one else where and they certainly don't need to send out a different one to see me through the wait.

I contacted superstar a couple of months ago to ask what replacement bearings I needed for a headset that they sold me previously(did not want to order wrong ones from them). Their reply....we can't tell you as different headsets take different bearings!!! I again replied with their model number etc and asked can they not tell me what size replacement bearing one of their own headsets takes......never heard back.

I had a wee Superstar Incident earlier in the year when they sent me wheels with bent spokes- the wheels were perfectly true and actually very nicely built, except for the bit where they'd built it from the ground up around 6 or 7 bent spokes. Bizarre. It was handled reasonably well but it was just wtf, how does this happen?

Sounds familiar from a few years back.

I'm waiting for a fake account on here again now...

On the flip side, they recently set me some lock cartridges when I'd ordered silicon grips. When I emailed, they set me the right grips, and a set of lockrings, told me to keep the ones sent in error. My email was very polite though... 🙂
