Building up my new slackline frame last night i offered up my rear wheel and the 10mm superstar thru axle /qr solid lump of metal is too big to fit in the dropout.
I can get the conversion kit to normal qr easy enough and offering up a different rear wheel with regular qr seemed to fit right
Should i be worried or is it just a small dropout on this frame?
Standard dropouts/axles are 9mm.
Double check that there is no damage or pinching of the dropout gap. Bashed mine once and it closed it up slightly and gave me the same problem.
If it is fine and just a bit on the tight side there should be little issue in taking a small file to it.
As said, 9mm is the standard although many frames will take a 10mm with no editing
Nope front axle/ dropout is 9mm rear is 10mm
As cdoc said. Try pushing the QR through the dropouts from the side, not the top. If it goes through you'll need to open the slot up a tad.
It didn't go in from the side either. Got a feeling it's taken a knock somewhere as the plastic spacer thingy was difficult to remove when i was unpacking the frame.
bollocks
Yep should fit I have a Hadley 10mm thru in my Slackline, something not right.
I've emailed Dan Stanton about it.
Dammit, i'm off down to the surrey hills in a week and wanted to "shred the gnarr" or whathaveyou on it
feeling glum now
is it too tight on both sides or just one?
Paint a bit too thick? Take a file gently to it?
(after discussing with the retailer first, of course)
It could just be paint. Can you slide it in from the side?
It's too tight on both sides. It is thick enamelled paint which is in the dropouts as well. I did think about a file, but was thinking it was odd it didn't fit from the off
I bought a road bike, built it up and last job was to fit the front wheel.
It wouldn't fit and upon closer inspection, it had obviously been dropped off the van at some point and landed on the forks, crushing the dropouts slightly. I did wonder why the front spacer came out in a cracked mess.
Can you see any hairline cracking in the paint that might suggest it's been bent after manufacture?
Mine had several hairline cracks all the way round and you could feel a slight bulge in the metal around the 'pinch point' of the squashed area. Sent it back and got another one.
There's a very high probability it's just paint.
@stumpy - no bulges, no cracks. I had a good look over the frame before i started building it up.
I do get the feeling it's paint which is a good thick coat over the bike
You would expect paint to accumulate over areas like the edges of a drop out so probably just that.
A bit of fine wet and dry taped to a steel ruler is great for removing the excess paint on bits like that. A bit less aggressive than a file.
Dremel with sanding wheel
It's not a 12mm axle is it? 🙂
