Either I’m being dense or this goat link copy doesnt fit the ordinary looking hanger that’s on an old orange five.

You line up the link as it should go (Writing on top edge and “shelf” for b screw at very end) and the bolt to attach it to the hanger just doesn’t line up.

Anyone else had this or am I Just rubbish at bike fettling?

The Orange hanger isn't exactly standard, the resting point for the B screw has the same thickness around the mounting screw - on most hangers it is thinner:

OK so that doesn't sound like it's going to work then?

This is the hanger off the Orange:

I've had to modify one with a file before

It’s not the width though it’s the bolt hole not lining up. Widening that would result in an oversized hole!

But can't you file the lip on the new link so there is room for the holes to align?

Ok, I could do but it's a bit of a bodge, especially as it's not a flat edge I could file nicely.

FYI a quick update. Father in law plus dremel on the extender itself ( didn't fancy hacking what could be a difficult old hanger to replace) has done the job.

That plus a longer B screw and it's shifting well on a 11-46 sunrace cassette.
