That's got to be a mistake surely? The 11-42 has horrible big jumps as it is, 11-46 would be terrible! Could you even get a 10 spd mech to work with a sprocket so large? The MX8 11 speed is 11-46, maybe they got the product page wrong?

It's not even listed on SunRace's own website (yet?), wasn't aware a 46T version of the MX3 was on the cards, only ever seen the 40 and 42s listed

The 11-42 has horrible big jumps as it is,

Well it has one gappy(ish) jump at the bottom but it's not that bad even the Shimano XT 11speed 46 goes from 37 to 46 at the top end, If they've just gone from 36-42 to 37-46 it won't be any worse.

SunRace 10 speed 11-42
11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-36-42

Assuming the 10 speed 11-46 would go
11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-37-46?

Compare to the 11speed options it's not really any worse or different except on one jump.

Sunrace 11speed 11-46
11-13-15-18-21-24-28-32-36-40-46

Shimano 11speed 11-46
11-13-15-17-19-21-24-28-32-37-46

Could you even get a 10 spd mech to work with a sprocket so large?

Fortunately Shimano 11 speed mechs work fine with their 10 speed shifters, so an SLX M7000 or XT M8000 does the job just fine.

Maybe it's just me then, I have one on my 5 and I never feel like I'm in the right gear!

Yeah, not worried about the jumps and intend to use an 11 speed shimano mech, which will be fine!

I thought Shim 10spd and 11spd were different cable pull ratios?

On road yes, on MTB they're the same, or close enough that it doesn't matter, it certainly works just fine (better in fact as the mech geo is better for big sprockets)

OK, so that's not too bad, same steps as the 11 speed but swapped the 32-36 jump for a single 34

Has anyone used this with a SRAM GX (10spd) rear mech?

I've got one and it's fine with the OneUp 42t extension but I assume 46t could be a step too far seeing as it's only rated to 36t on their product page...!

If you need a new mech, and cassette (and so, presumably, chain), why wouldn't you just pay the extra £25 for an SLX 11 speed shifter and have done with it?

Er yes it does.... STW got it from from ISON. Via the link I posted. Which was what they said in the fgf article. The link comes from that article.

In my case it's a combination of cross-compatibility with other bikes* (standardised drivetrain components) and 10 speed chain and cassettes still being cheaper and lasting (marginally) longer and being a little more mud tolerant. And I've already go the 11 speed mechs so they're not a cost.

I'd still be fully on 8 or 9 speed if I could get decent wide ratio and clutched mechs, some of mine still are 9 speed 🙂

A better question would be why would I spend the extra? 11 speed won't make me go faster 😉

*Except the wife's bike is 11speed, but I don't borrow her bits!
