Was looking for new forks & wheels and couldn't help noticing the online deals available on Sunn Prim S1. Couldn't find any info or review on it apart from the Sunn website. I was going to ride for a few weeks before writing up but was blown away my first ride .... black run & red run @ Glentress.
Basic setup is triple butted Alu frame which in appearance is slightly akin to the latest high end Boardmans. Position is stretched, partly cos of flat bars and partly a longer top tube. It is a race setup.
100mm SID RLTs are certainly light. Time & further setup required but based on the 3hrs of riding seem very competent. Formula Rx The One are the stoppers, which are ... light. Bars, seatpost, are Sunn branded carbon. saddle is Sunn branded SDG. Wheel setup is mental light and again Sunn branded. Tyres supplied are Hutchinson Python Air Lights and were surprisingly grippy on trail centre tracks. Natural terrain i.e. mud will reveal their weak spot.
Drivetrain is SRAM combo (X7 shifters, X9 cranks & X0 rear mech) with 2*10 setup. 28*36 is granny which I found a way bit higher than usual.
Frame is easy to convert to SS according to Sunn website.
Handling felt way more sketchy than usual ride and certainly will be swapping in risers for the flat bar. Just comparing speed with usual pals though definitely quicker on the downhill and loads quicker on the ups.
weight was bang on the quoted 9.8kg w\o pedals. Setup by Chain Reaction was perfect. Current deal appears to be £955 with further voucher qualification. Amazing value.
Will update after a few more rides
