Think I put this in the wrong forum last night 🙁
Evening all, been a while since I’ve been on here but always used to get a sensible answer 🙂 Anyhow, I’ve crossed over to the dark roadie side and recently discovered the joys of the indoor trainer. Bought an Elite Suito and use it with Zwift via Bluetooth to a MacBook. I’ve since read some articles about changing wheel circumference within the elite app? Mine’s set to the default 2070mm but should I alter this (dividing by x) ? Notice my average speed seems quite a bit lower than pals I follow on Strava and was just wondering if it was my weak legs or I need to adjust the setting ? Cheers

You are missing the point. Avg speed means nothing, power means everything.

I can't see that adjusting the wheel size is going to do anything for your Zwift times which are based on your power output. If you think things are a bit out, try calibrating the trainer. You can do it within Zwift if you like - there's a spanner icon next to the trainer on the pairing screen. If the temperature's changed a lot since you last calibrated or the trainer's been moved, it could upset the power reading.

Wheel circumference simply changes the virtual speed in the Elite My Training app, it won't have any effect in Zwift. In Zwift, your speed in mainly down to power, your weight, the terrain gradient plus aero/weight properties of the virtual bike and wheels. And if you are not using a TT bike or doing a training session, drafting other riders.

Thanks guys, yes I did wonder... think the circumference is maybe more related to using the trainer against a typical bike computer (Garmin etc) ? Will try the cal on Zwift as I haven’t done that yet...

Aso, while it's pretty obvious, on Zwift - just like real life - average speeds are also significantly affected by the amount of ascent in a ride, so you need to compare like for like. If you're doing hilly rides and your mates are zooming around the flat desert stuff they will be going quicker. Ditto, most likely, if your mate was using a Zwift time trial bike (goes faster, but doesn't draft) and you're using a standard Zwift road bike.

Plus they recently changed things so that the gravel bike and mountain bike go faster on some surfaces than road bikes. The gravel bikes, for example, are a lot faster around the Jungle loop than a 'road' bike.

Mostly the differences between bikes in Zwift are relatively small, but the time trial bikes are quicker on anything flat (at least without draft assistance) and the gravel / mountain bikes are quicker on rough surfaces, but Strava won't tell you what people were riding.
