You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Afternoon all,
I have a 2008 stumpjumper which came with Juicy 5's.
They have been a pain to be honest. The amount of stripping them, bleeding them, replacing seals on them and now they have come to the end of their life.
I notice that Specialized are still speccing Avid brakes but my experience is telling me to look elswhere. Are the new Elixirs just as bad or have Avid sorted out the Juicy issues?
Any suggestions for a decent replacement on a budget? A recent engagement means that putting money anywhere but 'the fund' has to have a business case! I am no racer, just an evening and weekend rider up in the North York Moors. Looking for good performance but not necessarily too fussed about weight, looks, trends etc.
Thanks for any help,
Iain
The latest Shimano Deore, SLX or XT (whichever you can get for the best online price - seen the XT 785's for less that the SLX's for e.g sometimes).
The XT's will happily stop my portly but authoritative frame pretty promptly...
Cheers

Deore if you are on a tight budget (you can get a full set for £100 if you look around), SLX if you are not.
Thanks for the suggestions.
So I can see Deore front or rear for about £40 but that doesn't include rotors and adaptors.
Can I use the rotors I have fitted from my Juicy 5's or will I need Shimano rotors? Excuse my ignorance, I've not swapped out disc brakes before.
Another vote for the latest Shimanos. You should be fine with your Avid rotas.
