I'm doing the same thing. Wondering where to go. Following a chat in the park this morning about bikes I've been inspired to get the 'cross bike out.
I can't decide on something from Marple canal, into Brabyn's, Ethrow, Robin Hood's Picking Rods and Peak's light or road out to Alderly Edge and mess about in the woods for a bit.
Onto the Transpennine Trail through Sale Water Park (plenty of wiggly bits off there but muddy at the mo) follow the river out towards Cheadle and then round the back of the airport, down through Mobberley, Tatton Park and then either back through Little Bollington or out through Tablet and back along the TPT.
Thanks folks, for ease I'LL use the TPT, not thought of going round the airport so I will include that.

What time are you out? Could meet up I generally go via Urmston where the stables are to access the Tpt.
Probably before 9 but will just go for a 15ish mile potter around in the mud for an hour.
