I’m looking for recommendations for non stormtrooper/unobtrusive chest armour that gives some flank protection while my ribs completely heal. D30 panelled t-shirt or similar?

I have no answer, just the same question, for the same reason.

Id be looking at some sort of motorcross protection as most MTB stuff doesnt protect the chest very well.

I have a leatt airfit lite long sleeve tshirt for uplift days, really lightweight and comfy to wear but doesnt do a lot for the chest.

The Troy Lee stuff is pretty light and unobtrusive. A lot of brands are doing something similar now. As you say, a D30 type under tee is what you’re after.

I tend to wear a fox raceframe as I have had a few rib injuries over the years and still tender with some of the damage.

Fits over or under and is easy to just stick in the car or remove if doing less risky stuff.

I like the look of the raceframe for bigger days out (bookmarked for next overseas trip whenever that will be). I just found the g-form pro x compression shirt which ticks many of my boxes..I have a spine protector built into my pack and so already have my back covered. I guess if nothing else the compression shirt should hold everything in place so I don’t get that jiggly internals feeling. Thoughts? Naff or good enough...it’s not a shell/cage and so obviously not as robust as the raceframe but for on the mend, getting back to speed perhaps enough?

Ribs are just really hard to protect- it's mostly a momentum injury, rather than you getting injured by what you hit you get injured by the weight of your body as you decelerate. So it's like adding crumple zone to the front of the car, then getting crushed by all the bricks in the boot. Even full dh jousting armour can only do so much, personally I wouldn't expect much useful protection from anything that you can actually bear to pedal in.
