I know there are seemingly a billion threads on lights at the mo.
My old lights were confirmed officially 'sh*te' last night so need new ones.
Seems plenty are running good lights for little pennies.
In a nutshell, I want decent light for 2 hour rides with a battery that won't explode, and doesn't die suddenly.
Please advise if you haven't already switched off 😉

^^^^^^ plus one. Mine arrived today. Took it down a cave (it me job) and it was pure daylight. Bit more spot than flood but still ace. Came with a free rear led too!

I have ordered that light too but from here.

£21 from China.........ok I may get stung for import duty etc, it may never arrive!

Also ordered big ol 8 cell 10000mAh battery in case it sucks the life out of 4 cells a bit rapid.

£15

Anyone but beam shots up for one of those yet?

As discussed 🙂
This
and maybe this

Seem ok so far and plenty of others seem to think they're good. The one above looks ok too but with only a 4000mah battery and 2 LEDs at a claimed 5000 lumens , I assume it won't last as long? But I could be wrong 🙂

The twin light eBay jobbie, has anyone tried it as a helmet light?

If so, how did you attach it?

Really can't see any reason to buy a single-XML Bastid-style light now tbh, they're pretty flawed lights- bright but too spotty. Sure you can add cost with a wide angle lens but they're still not great, the bright letterbox is weird to ride by. And by that time you've paid as much as these newer ones.

The single XML was never a great light but it had its place, now IMO it doesn't.

Any powerful rear ones for commuting?

That double XML looks great, looks quite simple to take apart and change the lenses to make less spotty?

I bought the X2 from China and it arrived yesterday. Tried it out last night, wow! How much brighter than my old Ay-Ups!?! I don't find it too spotty at all, maybe I'm used to the very spotty Ay-Ups though.

I'd like a second bigger battery for it as I could easily get used to all that light 😉

I have two of them solar x2 lights and niether of them are spotty, just one massive flood and certainly brighter than my hopes which claim to be 2000 lumens! Chinese lights all the way! 8)

So do these come in different lumens or not?

Northwind does make a good point, but if you're road riding the XML Bastid is definitely the cheapest option (with the changed lens).

I've been using one to commute with for a couple of years now and it's been great, the letterbox beam pattern is perfect for roads. I can see how it wouldn't be on offroad, wooded singletrack though.

Has anybody got a link for a bigger battery for the solar X2 lights? I'm not sure what to look for regarding the connections 😕

The battery connector on the Solarstorm, if basically a std magicshine connector with an added screw-up security 'over connector'. You can use an old MS compatible battery, as my battery was a duffer, I'm using an old MJ-828 with mine. The connection need a bit more force to get them to join and stay connected. I have read quickly that removing the o-ring off the lamp connector does make this easier.
So you can buy batteries from any supplier like Smudge, Magicshine UK or Torchy (and numerous others) & it should work

That double XML looks great, looks quite simple to take apart and change the lenses to make less spotty?

Apparently very easy to tear down, but I've yet to see a different lens available. Again it puts out so much light that I don't find mine particularly spotty, so have no reason to think about changing them.

If you're buying the x2 - Most come with US chargers. I got mine from a guy selling with with a UK charger

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200959831751?var=500183329081&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Only downside he's put his price up to 33.99 (I paid £27.99) - Personally, I reckon it's worth it for the UK charger, but at least it gives you the option. The X2 is an excellent light.

Mid setting is a little brighter that the Moon x500 (500 lumens) on overdrive. And you'll get approx 4 hours out of the battery on mid. On high, about 1 1/2 hours.

or you could just buy a £1 converter from boots?
A UK plug/charger is nice but hardly a deal breaker.
