Caroline Alexander! She always made me climb quicker, trying to keep up with her! Nice Ules too!
I want to see retro pics of Mamadirt, see if she's changed at all. 😀
She can't have been any lovlier, that's for sure. Not possible.... 😉
Ules, still my grip of choice

Marin County, Cali
As I scrolled through the thread, I was surprised to see one of my own photos in your post, Cindy Whitehead in Crested Butte, 1984.
Here I am on the right in 1982, when my friend and I took our MTBs on a road century ride.
When RepackRider shows up on a retro thread we are not worthy. Good to see you here Charlie.
Is that Brian Blessed in the time trial pic 😆
Here's a couple of me from the dim and distant past...

I see the X-press shifters have gone off that Cindercone Tomaso!
Mine didn't last long either! 🙂
I still love those early 90s Konas!
Going back to 2001/2 and after a motorbike whoopsy left me with a pined left wrist I had to put away the Mongoose SGX and ride something with suspension forks. Check out the Lovely Judy TTs (still in the shed), rear brake only, big-ringing it...
The frame snapped by the seat tube/top tube about a year after.
My friend Phil had one of these-
Which I borrowed after one house party to go and get some bacon and milk from Morrisons on. After nailing a set of footbridge stairs my foot spun on the pedal at walking pace and I've still got the scars on my shin today.
Loving the splatter paint jobs on the retro Konas. My first real MTB (after a Raleigh Maverick) was a Kona Lave Dome from the same year (1990) except I got the limited edition all white version/non-splatter. It was bought from Covent Garden Cycles, a shop that had a Mint Sauce mural on the wall. I also got a free pair of JT Thread glasses, anybody remember those?
Random fact I later wnet to work in Covent Garden Cycles around 1996, when it was part of the Wheely Serious group of shops.
i had some AXO Ponies 😀 they should remake a modern version, same goes for that Klein paintjob - i think its fab, would go down a treat on any fat tubed modern bike (5?)
My friend Steve and I. We reckon we were the first people to ever mountainbike Copper Canyon in Chihuahua state of Mexico - way back in the late 80's. Check out that Pro Caliber and Cannondale 3.0!

Ah, Matchams Park 🙂 Did you ever do those short course night races they used to do, Rich? Over the motorcross jumps and through the tunnel. Great fun (I was rubbish at them though).
Never did the night race I only had 3W haolgens, god knows how people raced before decent lights came out!
Matchams! WOOOOOOO! I won a bottle of Muc Off there once, for being the first in to the first corner.
Soon after that, I was wheezing away heavily and losing places badly! 🙂
Bit premature as usual then Flashy? 😉
