You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hi all,
following on from last week's successful trip, we've decided to do another!
Following this route
http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=27333
We'll be setting off from the car park on Ladybower at 10am.
All welcome.
Don't forget the STW NOrthern Meet Marsden ride that weekend
Oh poo!!!!!
Just had a weekend pass, but used it to do studying, can't see me being able to swing another. Nuts.
Well done, btw, for sorting another one out though.
Perhaps one in the new year?
ill still have a big hole in my knee post op. but ready for one after!
I get a feeling it'll be quite a regular thing somehow....
STW group rides out there 5th and 6th!
Excellent!
😀
Yep, its great that this is becoming more regular, means more people will be able to come along!
I struggled for ages to get people together for nights, but found a bunch already doing it, now there is always someone going out.
Still want to do something like cut gate at night! That would be awesome.
I wrote off my car this morning and have some severely bruised if not cracked ribs so you'll have to count me out for a while
bugger - what happened?
Just a thought, isn't that a footpath off Whinstone Lee Tor?
The alternative BW back down to Cutthroat Bridge though is a blast isn't it?
It'll be good to see how all those that claim 'The Beast' is easy perform.....
You're quite right. Will - you rebel. Hadn't spotted that cheek. Merlin, i rode up there a couple of weeks back. Grinding going up cos of the mud but it'll be a laugh going down, so as a result we'll be dropping down to cutthroat. It'd be a shame to miss it!
THIS ROUTE
I know the FP route well - and when there's just a couple of you it's not usually an issue 😉
Hope you have a good day - sorry I can't join you 🙁
Might be up for this myself as it's fairly local.
Just make sure you book the weather... 🙂
We did that route on saturday, not done it for a while and forgot how good it was, might join you on saturday if I can get out of work.
This is Bamford Clough which you asked about in the other thread. Well worth a wee diversion (go up to the top of it using the road from near the reservoir dam). It's steep and slippery although straight - don't break your neck though.
Doesn't look like I can join you this Saturday though. Have fun!
www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=27357
😀
A classic! 😉
that's pretty rubbish route (the original one)
misses out half the fun bits and uses a footpath as pointed out
turn right just before cutthroat bridge for a top descent down to the back of the ladybower inn
cross over to crookhill and go up to the top of hagg side for another top descent
then go up the landrover track on the back of win hill to join the bridleway near the roman road
bamford clough isn't worth all that road riding imho on the second route
wish i could come but i shall be working for 23 hours instead 🙁
Pook - bugger - what happened?
lost control on ice, bounced off a tree, spun along the road, demolished a wall and rolled my car.
pity as my lights turned up today, i could have gone riding tomorrow and this new ride looks well good.
Boo! I am on 12 hour nights friday.
Will keep em peeled for another day.
Have fun and take pics etc.
Rob.
Iwas thinking that mmw, couldn't see a non cheeky link between the woods and roman road though. The amended route has the descent.
there is a cheeky but acceptable route up the back, a footpath about half a mile down river from the beast, it's through forestry and is a landrover track which there is tacit approval to use from the landowners
I'll defo try and make this one, hope for some good weather
I'll be on this on.
MMW - Interesting idea on some aspects of the route. I think Cut Throat is a must do, be nice and muddy 🙂
Looks like not as many as the other one, but still early days. Also the weather looks awful 😆
After last saturdays intro to the dark peak i shall try and make it out again
hmmm, i may well come up again...
It's going to be good 😆
If its the same landrover track as mentioned many times above, the VG graphics book uses it if that helps you make your mind up on using it?
I'm probably up for coming along this sat, and maybe my Dad too. I'm not the most prolific of posters but its always fun to ride with new people 🙂
We do this circuit quite regularly, and usually go up past Rowlee Farm rather than the Hagg Farm climb, as its more rideable?
like dis:
some other options I'd imagine you wouldn't want to touvh most of them on a group ride. The climb up the back (North side) of Win Hill is in the VG graphics book (OS map is simply a path (not a footpath) so maybe you could use that one
*I can't get the link to work. Bikehike said the url of my saved loop is: www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=27382
I don't know what I'm doing wrong
Also, as per my last post, if you track where that other landrover track is on a satelite picture, it lines up nowhere near the footpath on the OS map running parallel to it
I'm not going to say I can attend this as I dropped out of the last one, but (transport issues aside) I can't see why not just yet
Damn, I have been foolish enough to enter WSII over Thetford on Sunday 🙄
I would have defo been on board again, but cant make both 🙁
Have a good ride, remember the snorkel for Simon!
That's Sunday though Mr Kemp 😉
We still going to try and video this one Chris?
I have just ordered some long lycra trousers and overshoes as well, as following on from last weekend, we'll need them!
How do all,
cheers MMW - i like the look of that, and the winhill landrover track aside, i know all the trails. I'm sure we'll find it.
Will, I'll be bringing my camera
:o)
You can't miss it, it's a long straight steep track at about 45 degrees to the reservoir access road
to avoid contention we tend to push the 100m from the top of the trees to the bridleway on the top of the col
nice one
new cx tyres just ordered. Hope they get here for friday!
will - are you on uk-mtb? or is that a different will?
fancy this, what will be total distance and fitness required and will be coming from barnsley on train so will have to get back to bamford/hope station for train so roughly how long does route normally take thanks,so i can catch train back.
16 miles. Varied fitness (there will be a hangers on group as last week)
www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=27395
Normally you could do this in about 3 hours. But I'd allow a little more. Plus if you miss your train, spend a bit more time in the pub and I can drop you at Sheff station.
I'll be there for this one.
I'm in. Horas going. And I know I'm not slower than him. Is anyone?

Another big ride 🙄
Ow and i'm not on Uk-mtb...Must be another one
re: burger
I was jealous though.
😳
ladybower inn does nice food 🙂
yup, just spent the weekend there
and my brother is one of the chefs 🙂
Can't we squeeze the beast downhill into the route...? 😉 I suppose it could be optional, and regroup at the bottom of the Rowlee Farm climb?
Aren't we doing that, from the Top of Hope Cross. At least I thought we were...
As you know, I'm open to suggestions! The route I have so far goes from hope cross to rowlee farm down the roman road, so yes, it misses the beast. If people want me to include it and then have a quick road blast to the farm climb we can. Should be some good filming on there will!
So is the route going tobe clockwise or anticlockwise? I'm not 100 percent sure if i will make it or not... I hope so.
erm, clockwise.
Erm, probably a bit late in the day for this but if anyone travelling down from the rochdale area could give me a lift i'd be more than happy to pay for the petrol and supply cakes etc.
E-mail in profile if it helps.
Outlook
Saturday
Cloudy with outbreaks of heavy rain, widespread hill fog, and strong to gale southwesterly winds.
-------------------------
When I said book the weather perhaps I should have been more specific!!!!
I need to get busy shortening those army goretex I've just bought. 😐
Hope the weather is ok 😆
I think we should try and ride the Beast... even if it means adding a little section on! Such an iconic decent, seems daft to miss it out, also I want to see how people ride it, then I know if i'm any good 😆
will - That's Sunday though Mr Kemp
I did consider both! But that would mean over 8 hours of driving too. Damn, you have got me thinking about it again now... 😯
8 Hours... Thats more of a commitment that Lyons!

Only ridden the Beast once and didn't think it was as hard as what people make out! Cavedale is harder! I would like to come on this but Im working this weekend - I'm free next weekend - typical eh!
A bit of rain? pah - nothing. We were riding in blizzard conditions last week! (kind of) 😉
We'll stick the beast in and have a road spin to Rowlee farm....unless people want the hagg farm climb too?
We've vaguely got a route in. Small changes can be decided on the day
Hi Pook hopefully I'll be there this week!
At the risk of too many [s]chefs[/s] routes spoil the broth... this is the route i'd suggest which is similar to one you posted - avoiding the trudge up Crookhill but missing the Hagg Farm descent and steep Wooler Knoll.
www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=27475
As i have said, i'm easy with the route, however i do think the beast, and then potentially hagg fsrm climb is a good idea, having said that i think i'll be walking up most clinbs 😆
hmmmm.........im tempted to come along. unfortunately the 10am start on a saturday means negotiating sheffield at 9ish, which puts me off a bit.
you say this is going to be a regular thing? will it always be saturdays, or will there be any sundays as well? its about a 2hr drive for me, so quiet roads on a sunday morning pretty much essential.
I would deffo be up for another one of these in the future if it was on a Sunday as I would be coming from Linocln way, and the traffic is a 'kin 'mare.
Not always going to be Saturdays. In the new year I'll put some sundays in as they justify a massive meal afterwards even more!
sadex. Where you coming from, if you hit sheffield about 9.15ish that will give you plenty of time. Also unlike most cities, i actually find sheffield to be traffic wise
hi fallguy - that was the original route - based on some local knowledge we chopped the aston road/climb bit out.
ill be coming from lincoln. same as monkeychild up there, but i not met that bad boy yet! *waves* 🙂
9.15 on a saturday in sheffield is ok you reckon??? not a big pile of stationary traffic??
should be ok. You'll not go right into the city centre - instead you'll drop down and then take the ring road.
Just follow the A57 signs for Manchester.
ring road? am i being daft here? im sure we've always followed A57 signs before and ended up going through the centre :-/
EDIT - just looked at my map to see if i was missing something, but no, the A57 looks to go slap bang through the middle of the city to me :-/

There's a new ring road sadex here...
http://www.multimap.com/s/Qb9FxGYe
it cuts off the need to go right into the city. Most maps (including that link) don't show it yet as it only opened properly this year.
EDIT: It's kind of like this
yeah?? lovely lovely!! that opens things up a bit! ill get out in the garage in a bit and make sure my bikes up to scratch. just done a ghetto tubeless job on it, and a group ride in the peaks isnt where you want to find a 'FAIL' :-/
thanks
lincoln eh. Just had a look on a map, this is the route i would suggest. A57 to worksop, a60 accross m1, chesterfield, b6051 to owler bar, b6055 to hathersage, then on to ladybower. You then miss all potential traffic. Ow yeh, sadex, did i sell you some shorts 😆
google maps has the route shown
come in on the a57 on the right, nip onto the a61 around the city, jump back on the a57 on the left.
😀

PO
sadexpunk, Im form Lincoln (N Hykeham) sadly I cant make this Saturday but any other weekend and in the week I can do! The Dark Peak is my normal ride, I take the A57 over dunham bridge and go right into city (normally on a week day) about 9, just follow signs for A57 Glossop (or university). The traffic is not that bad and I literally go through the centre. I leave my house at 830am and get into the CP at ladybower inn at 1015am.
if you want to share fuel costs etc and dont mind an average 41yr old on a Heckler then would be happy to meet for a ride!
PS just gone ghetto on the Heckler (DT5.1's, High Rollers & Stans Sealant) and been down Jacobs etc with no problems!
OT time the A57 has indeed changed through Sheffield I went across snake pass last week and was shocked at how much the roads have changed, you do indeed skirt around the Sheffield centre now.
*waves back at sadexpunk* I am a loner in these here flat parts 😆

DO NOT take this route, trust me I drive to the Dark Peak week in week out and this route adds 45-60 mins (and its a horrible road) Take the A57 all the way going straight through Sheffield City Centre - when you get to Park Square go SA into the city, follow signs for University/Hospital then you will pick up the A57 Glossop again.
TRUST ME on this I only did it yesterday!
No no! Skirt around on the sexy new ring road!!!
At the weekend the town will be busy.
TRUST ME! I live in Sheffield
😉
sbrock, if the dark peaks your normal ride, then youll be waaaay fitter than me. dont get out much really, due to work commitments, family, and lack of motivation round here 🙁
but yes, id be happy to share a car for a ride over sometime. every now and then we nip up to the wolds as well. only bout half hour drive away on a sunday morning. you want me to shout when we next go?
will, tried the chesterfield way, and it was slower. believe me, we've tried every route there 🙂 even going higher up the motorway and dropping down, but we could never shorten the journey time :-/
(its quite possible you sold me some shorts. endura clickfast?)
EDIT - dont worry pook, when i come over again, its DEFO the new ring road! hopefully saturday 🙂
which car park pook? is it...
1. the free yorkshire water one with the loos
or
2. the ladybower inn?
