Me.....!

Not too sure about cake, but the Mrs is none to worried if I bring folk back here after the ride - she's even offering to do a home made soup & bread - good for a post ride warm through (and lining on the stomach before heading for the pub)....

Has this now moved from the 12th? If it has that's most convenient 🙂

I can probably count myself + 1 other in.

The fire in the tunnel end is good!

Any idea on route?

(got to get me a proper back tyre)

Route - taken from original thread -

Vague route is out of marsden in a meltham direction, over and down wessenden valley :-), up and over to saddleworth (castleshaw/larkhill/delph), up and over 5 ways, piethorne, back down packhorse for a muddy/rocky finish. Plans to add in a little more is we happen to get a crisp winters morn.
😀

A bit more detail - sure Keith will confirm / deny this if I heard wrong 😀

Up chain road, hang a right after the houses, double track up towards shooters nab, hang a left, past shooting club, pass the res and drop down to the river pump station above Meltham. Up the double track then black stuff to the top of Wessenden... hang a right and 'wheeeeeeeeeeee' (almost) all the way down... 😀
Cross the dam at Butterly Res, up Mount Road, hang a left, cross the moor to Brun Clough.
Cross A62, follow double track round, crossing back over A62 and onto Larkhill.
Off Larkhill to Delph, Delph up to rose & Crown at Denshaw (Heights) 😀
Then, as above - head for 5 Ways etc...

And, yes, would be rude to pass the Tunnel End - Gary keeps a good fire and Bev won't mind the mud!!

That's the fella MM.

Just a note to anyone from the saddleworth side of the hill, it would appear that the trains are still not running 🙁

HP - you're after a few post ride pints in the Riverhead 😉
If you can get a lift over you could change at our place and leave the bike etc overnight, collect on the Monday night?

I get the feeling that the drinks afterwards aren't so optional.... I'll see what I can do! Thanks for the offer.

Was hoping to make it over the hill for this seen as it's a local one for me. Unfortunately can't now. Enjoy all.

😳 😳 😳
The shame of it - jibed only a couple of hours into my local ride......
Lack of fitness and wicked headwind are not a good combination... cold wet feet did not help either so, hit home, showered and assisting with soup making for when the hardy bunch finish....
and off to Wiggle to get some sensible winter boots - it's time to stop procrastinating and time to get back on the commute....

Couldn't make it myself (chest infection) but hope you all had a good ride. Weather doesn't look too bad out, although it's always windy on the tops round here. Bet it's a right quagmire down the packhorse trail. Maybe next time.

Thank you Keith and Keith's Dad - amazing that the rain stopped just at the right time. Post ride soup from Mr & Mrs MM was most welcome and mince pies from Keith's Mum fininshed off an excellent day out - I will take a look a look at my pictures later to see if they are any good.

Sounds like a decent route, but why did you not go over the dam head at Wessenden Res (by the deer farm) and follow the trail past Swellands Res over to Brun Clough? It's a great trail which misses out that drag up Mount Road and you join up with the same trail anyway.

Morning all! Thanks for the kind words - 'twas our pleasure - you lot certainly knocked a hole in the MM soup lake!
HP stopped on for 'a couple of pints', which turned out to be half a dozen and a meal at the pub so he ended up bunking here 😀

DeeJAy - thanks (i think... 😉 ) for the picture which proves I need to stop eating and start moving 😯
I should print it and pin it to the fridge door!

Oh, on a personal note - many thanks to those of you who asked how my little photography business is going, an offering encouragement for the future.
C

Maybe we were lucky with the weather, it still took an over an hour after we'd finished before my feet came back to life though!
Thanks to Keith for organising, Mr and Mrs Marsdenman for hospitality and soup, and Keith's mum for mince pies. 'twas an excellent ride.

Ben and Hazel. (Cotic and Genesis for those that remember bikes better than names).
