Anyone else got this problem today?

I tend to have this webpage open in one of my browser tabs running the background. This evening I noticed the laptop fans kept kicking in. A bit of digging narrowed it down to the browser (Google Chrome and subsequently Firefox) and then to the tab I've got this forum open in. The CPU is at 70%. When I shut this window it drops to 5%. Open it back up and it goes back to 70% and stays there. Other regular websites seem fine.

Any ideas?

I have argued this with STW towers before. I believe the adverts are so intrusive and processor intensive on this site that it virtually forces people to do something about it. this is actually counterproductive. I know of no other site that is as processor intensive or intrusive and I do use other sites with adverts on.

I am convinced if they stopped the animations click thru would not be affected - it might even improve. I for one will not click thru on ads from here simple because they are so awful.

STW towers line is that without the flashing / animated ads click thru is reduced and also that discusssion of adblocking gets folk banned.

I hope I have stayed on the right side of this - but who knows.

I hate flash because it is so intrusive and have multiple weapons at my disposal for reducing the irritation it causes.

You won't get banned for saying you've blocked the ads, you'll get into trouble for telling how to do it on the forum.

Their stats show the flashy ads are more successful.

I did use to block them but when I've changed compters and OSs a few times I never set the blocks back up. Use to the ads now never notice them, both my laptop and desktop barely go above 1% for mozilla running STW.
