My petrol Peugeot 106 is stuttering a little when at full throttle, kind of like it's being starved of fuel. Would changing the fuel filter be the place to start with trying to figure out what's causing this? I've accidentally run it dry recently so I'm thinking I might have dragged some crap from the bottom of the tank through the fuel lines thus blocking the filter. Does this sound likely?

or just quite a bit of throttle?
my 306 did that, just for a few seconds at a time, usually when accelerating away from a junction/roundabout etc.
i just put it down to being a 5h1t car. which is what it was.

High or low revs? If it's low - middle of the rev range my money would be on the HT stuff - coil pack, distributor cap, HT leads, spark plugs. An already weak spark can break down under heavy load

Sorry, should have made that more clear, not at the rev limiter. Just when accelerating briskly, it's only the 1.0 so it needs rather a lot of throttle to make it move at all.. And that's when it's stuttering.
In it's defence it's my first car and 17 years old and I've done 12000 miles since I got it and only replaced a couple of bulbs. Still pretty crappy though. 🙂

Fouled spark plugs? Maybe it just needs a service.

I serviced it less the 2000 miles ago and it had new Bosch plugs the so I doubt that it'll be them. I'll put a new fuel filter on and see if that makes a difference first.

Fuel filter is a easy cheap win. If that dosnt cure it check condition of ht leads and coil pack next. Then your into checking sensors.

Could be about 50 things tbh... Filter makes good sense though. Anything car-specific? (Owner's forum?)

Likely to be the ignition module on it's way out. That's what I'd be looking at on this engine. Trust me everything adds up. Mileages, going at higher constant or building revs at first a little then more then on and off at all revs, that engine, Cheap and easy to fit another yourself( breakers / recyclers maybe , ebay or eurocarparts / GSF etc) IMHO. Then see what it's like. If it still does it then look at other causes.

My guess would be HT leads. But could as well be fuel filter, carb, air filter or fuel pump

Coil pack on our 306 caused this, like iamroughrider says, it will just get worse.

Depending on your ECU, it can also be shagged by the failing coil pack. Good luck.

Firstly might be worth checking for any obvious issues / broken leads frayed cables, split wire insulations, oily connections / etc.

it may i guess be the ecu relay located under the ECU ( little control box clipped in )

You can re educate the ecu on your car. Disconnect the battery for 30 mins then reconnect and drive it about normally and the ecu will teach itself your driving style etc and set itself accordingly. I used to own one and occasionally it would have an occasional miss. Check the breather hose from the crankcase to air cleaner for splits cracks etc and if that's is in any way perished replace it pour some neat redex round the barrel of the inlet for the carb and clean with a lint free rag the butterfly edges and carb barrel. Any oil build up round the top of the carb could well be what's causing your issue.
Just be aware too that although Bosch plugs were traditionally known to be great the Delco ones and japaneses I have always found to be better these days.

Coil packs are really common on these, and would give the symptons you describe OP.

Could be million things. I'd check in this order: earth straps, ecu, plugs, ht leads, coil packs, map sensor, fuel filter, lambda sensor, throttle position sensor, ebay for another cashpoint car?
