Need to add some gears to a bike with a 120mm back end and the SRF5(w) seems to be the easiest way to get a good range. Anyone tried one? Draggy at all?

Little bit confused about cabling to. Is it any better to use the fulcrum lever and the roller or try and stop the cable on the chainstay and use the old style guide nut? In a way the fulcrum lever sort of looks neater to me, I assume you just run a full outer up to it?

Any pics of cable routing would be good.

Yes, they're fine, but the 3 speed is sweeter, much lighter, and is good enough to get you up any hill in the UK (road).

Both styles of cabling are fine. I prefer the original style - you can see exactly what's happening, and all it needs is a drop of oil every so often to keep it in trim.

Cheers. I'm sporting a knee ligament injury which is taking forever to get really better so I erring towards more gears the better. There's only 70g in it according to their weights. I was happy with the s2 duomatic in it until the injury and not been able to ride it since.

The 3 speed is a single train of epicyclics and the 5 speed is 2 trains so there will be slightly more drag in the 5 speed.

But I doubt you'd notice it. Plenty people are riding Alfine 8s,11s, and Rohloffs which have more trains.

In other words, also a nice hub.

Coincidentally I'm building a wheel with the 5 speed for my classic road bike because of a nagging leg injury. 🙂
