Probably gonna get flamed here but................I want to upgrade to 11 speed to get a closer ratio. I really like the look of the new Shimano cassette (means I can keep my beloved Hope Pro II's). However, I also like SRAM shifting. Is there any reason I can't use SRAM RD and shifter with Shimano cassette? Think I might be missing something.

Should be OK to run a Shimano 11-speed cassette with SRAM 11-speed shifters / mech or vice-versa.

No problem. Based on the experience of a few others on here I upgraded pretty much as you are planning (and can confirm that it works fine!)
