Ok seeing as I'm a bit of a tube when It comes to adjusting gears , I cant get my front derailer to drop from the middle cog to small cog In order to get up Hills. This made yesterdays Ardgarten Peninsula run pretty challenging as there was a fair bit of climbing. Looking down on the two screws from above which one should I adjust and In what direction. The bike is booked in for a service next week but would like to have a bash .

Also the gear changes are really slow , does this normally mean requiring new cables ?.

Thanks In advance for any help.

just undo the bolt that holds the cable on, does it drop then?

don't mess with the limit screws unless it's a new mech.
it's the cable tension that controls the shifting.

Its all gone a bit Pete Tong since posting , Tried loosening cable tensioning bolt for front derailer . Had mixed results from Getting first and second cog but no third . Then thought Id fine tune It a bit with the adjuster near left hand gear cable. Now cant get any tension at the gear trigger end .... Can see a trip to LBS coming. 🙄 🙁

Cheers Basspine thats a handy website. I now get the use of the first and second cog albeit for the second cog the gear lever has to be in the position for the third cog.

i.e.

position on lever (window)
1st gear window = 1st cog
2nd gear window = Much rattling on chain
3rd gear window = 2nd cog

so tighten the barrel adjuster. you have to move it clockwise a quarter of a turn. and then see what happens, if that doesnt work another quarter and work from there.
