Thanks for that. As a follow on, if I was to fit V's, what's the recommendation for which ones to go for?

But you should know that ideally you need to change the levers as V brakes need lever that pulls more cable..

Yes; if I change the brakes, I'd planned to do the levers as well (as this is the Hybrid of Doom, the cantis are cheap no-name ones*, as are the existing levers).
