I cant decide.Like the look of the both of them. The Pitch looks bigger and more beastly, but the Stumpy looks lighter and more balanced.

????

What will you be using it for? Pitch is like a watered down Enduro that'll do light DH, but the Stumpy won't.

xc / single track mostly with a bit of DH ( nothing major )
I'm a little confused between XC and all mountain too..

Pitch.

I've got an 04 Enduro and it'll do everything from 40 mile offroad bog carries to Fort William DH track. Stumpy is a bit light for my needs.

I had a 2008 stumpy which was my do everything bike - xc racing to big weekends. An excellent bike, but not as much fun as having a lightweight hardtail to race and a pitch to mess about on (the combo I'm lucky enough to be able to choose between now). Unless you want to go everywhere fast, in which case you're probably better off with an Epic anyway, you'll have more fun on a pitch. I do. Climbs like a goat and desends as well as anything I've ever ridden.

Looking at the reviews here too: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain/product/pitch-pro-08-28147 most people are of a similar opinion.

Thought the Stumpy was a XC/trail race bike and the Pitch more
Trail harder hitting bike.
Il say the Pitch is about all the bike you need
and probably out sells the Enduro.

I find the Pitch fun on the downs not so fun on the ups. To me it is not great at all day everything - I'm not fit enough really!

Had both, sold the stumpy to buy the pitch, was the right move i believe imo. Pitch is way more fun but not as fast uphill as the stumpy, depends what you want it for.

Where do you ride the majority off the time?

2 very different bikes!

I've had a Stumpy FSR and now have a Pitch. If I could only have one bike, I'd get another Stumpy without hesitation because they will do anything pretty well at a pinch - Climbing, all day rides, trail centres, racing, whatever. The Pitch is a VERY different animal. Bit of a drag uphill, low to the ground, slack and stable.
If you want a bike for pootling around some singletrack or riding enduros, look elsewhere, or get the Stumpy.
If you want a bike to winch steadily to the top of a mahoosive great hill and fling back down the other side grinning like a maniac, then get a Pitch.
I love mine but an everyday bike it is not. It's a fun bike for pointing down big hills, not riding round on the flat
They are great in the Alps too!
🙂

Stumpjumper all the way unless you plan on riding trails with uplifts to the top, and some narly descents - even then, I still think the stumpy handles the rough stuff just fine - especially if you are as smooth as silk.

I use mine for everything, it certainly aint gonna win any races to the top, but its still more than capable of climbing without a chair lift 😯
Ive had med and small frame, the med was little more trouble on singletrack than the small is

My bro-in-law in Vancouver has a Pitch as his cross-country bike. He did the Gear Jammer race on it last August. I think he would disagree that it is only suitable for uplifts and mini-downhill.

As with everything, try and get a ride and see which fits best.

With this in mind you would probably be much better suited with a Stumpjumper, and assuming you will be buying a 2010 one they now have 140mm of travel which is more than enough for the odd light bit of DH you want to do.

Bert.

Carpe diem you should find your Specalized dealer
will have test bikes on these two
So my advice would be to take them out and try them.

Pitch is like a watered down Enduro that'll do light DH, but the Stumpy won't.

Bit clear cut there, what is 'light DH' anyway. The GB team were practicing their descending on the Cwmcarn DH track a couple of years ago on their Trek OCLV hardtails, a Stumpy is hardly going to fold when you get 6" air under the wheels, depends if you're a fat clumsy oaf or not!

He did the Gear Jammer race on it last August. I think he would disagree that it is only suitable for uplifts and mini-downhill.

I could take my road bike to the Megavalanche. Doesn't mean it'd be any good.

Stumpy if you like to ride, Pitch if you spend a lot of time jumping off things.

The new Stumpy is amazing, especially if you can get one with the brain. It climbs amazing and is still a confident descender. Perfect trail centre bike as well as all day xc, enduro's etc etc.

Pitch was very cheap last year but has gone up quite a bit, if I was spending the cash on a Pro I'd find the extra few hundred and buy the 2010 Enduro which is significantly better than the Pitch. Basically the Pitch is a down spec version of the old Enduro. The new Enduro is lighter and faster both up hill and down. I'd be happy to take it to any Enduro and its upto to racing DH although you'd never win owt.

As mentioned previously go and get a demo on a few different bikes and see what you like.
