[Closed] Stumpjumper internal cable routing - definitely not what it says on the 🥫

Anybody have any experience of routing cables in the newer carbon stumpjumper? A quick check of YouTube revealed the seeming straightforward job of simply threading a new cable outer through the frame and, hey presto! Out it comes at the other end! Four hours later and having tried threading everything at hand through the frame, still no joy!
Any similar experiences or (hopefully) tips?

Which cable is causing problems?

On my 2019 frame they did all magically thread straight through first time apart from the dropper, which needed a bit of coaxing up the seat tube with a thin strip of cardboard.

No experience with that frame. But for others I've found if you put a small bend/kink in the last inch of the cable you are feeding through helps. As you feed it in, you can then rotate the cable around to find the exit hole a lot easier than you can with a straight cable.

I've been known to screw a short piece of spoke with a hook on the end into the housing, then feed in a loop of gear cable to catch it and pull it out.

No issues at all... swapped brake noses with ease...

No issues with my 2016 Stumpjumper or the Enduro I swapped it out for. Brake and gear cables were a 1 shot, the internal dropper was a bit of a pain, but a bend on the first inch of the tube helped it go up the seat tube and a bit of reaching through the swat box to guide it...

On the Stumpy Evo you have to remove the chainstays and a plate at the back of the BB.
It's a right pain in the ass.
There are instructions on the Spech site somewhere.

no issues with mine push in one end comes out the other. its got an internal tube.

Apart from the dropper that can go into the top tube after it bends round the bb. needed fishing out with a spoke or similar but still really easy.

everytime i think of internal routing i think of the gear cable on my old liteville. Even phoned the factory and they said yea we have problems too! its a nightmare!

There's something wrong with your frame, maybe the 'joint' between the frame and rear end has slipped.

It should take about 30 seconds, the you tube videos are right.

Not had a problem with any of ours. It sounds as if something is misaligned.

I had the same problem when trying to replace rear gear cable. I had already done the brake cable, which went through the frame very easily. After much head scratching I took the forks off and found that the internal routing guide tube was not fixed in the frame at the headset - simple to fix, albeit fiddly.

@psmd I think this may well be the issue, thank you very much 👍
