I have come across a Super Deluxe RCT rearshock for my Stumpjumper 2019 expert .

for £299 . an upgrade over the deluxe RC3 thats on the bike .

Its now come to my attention the said shock i have come across comes with the bearing mount , something i can not use with the stumpjumper due to the flip chip .

I'm asking for experts out there if its just the case of the bearing being removed so i can then use the intended flip chip . or is it a no go as the eyelet is not the correct size .

the shock is the same size as the shock on the bike (210x50) ..

is it a massive upgrade ? the new shock is in the Medium setting.

im aslo considering upgrading the RC pike to a RC2 new 2019 lyrik in red bommer color .

I have not ridden the bike since bought it as its going through a repair with specialized .

i aslo have other upgrades for the bike and its going to be a great project once finished .

Assuming its from a Bronson3 if it's got the bearing in the lower mount.

Which if so, is apparently not removable (well, unless you buy a new airshaft).

You remove the bearing end but I don't think theres a bolt on standard end that would fit. As above, £56 for an airshaft +circa £100 for a service unless you DIY.

Also debating the value on the upgrade to the Super Deluxe but that's because I stripped a thread refitting my bearing mount (Bird Am9)

it says Yeti SB5 ..

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/rockshox-super-deluxe-rct-rear-shock/

but on the photoes sent to me it clearly has the bearing on eyelet .

in the photos it also has what looks like spacing washers in case the bearing is removed .

i will upload the photos that got sent to me from wiggle .

The washers might be the dust covers for the bearings?

I'd be fitting a more adjustable shock, Ohlins/Storia/Cane Creek/Fox X2. Much better performance over the one you have listed, although quite a bit more money.

as you can see from the images the washers for the bearing are already attached to the shock with cable tie .

also on my stumpjumper where the bearing mount is on the super deluxe there is no need for mounting hardware as the flip chip is the mounting hardware .

Sir HC

yes double the price what i would be paying for this shock. at £299 its better than whats on the bike is it not ?

Im also finding it hard to find a metric shock within the £400 range and would like if i can keep it to rockshox as i have my heart set on the new lyriks .

Flip chip looks like it runs on a standard eyelet (like the aircan end). So no, the bearing mount won't work. What shock size do you need?

The Super Deluxe isn't £300 better than the Deluxe- the piggyback will be beneficial on longer descents but from the videos I have seen there isn't huge changes otherwise.

The stumpy runs a much lighter tune afaik so it would make it feel a little harsh?

I know the bearing mount wont work . im asking if the bearing can be removed and then it would be a normal eyelet to then fit the flip chip .

Hob Nob

https://www.tftuned.com/dbcoil-il/p3258

according to tftuned its not compatible .

shame as they look good . im trying to stay away from FOX .. ive had nothing but fox over the last 7 years and top end too . now i have Lyriks rc2 on my kenevo they are the best forks i have ever used the small bump sensitivity is just amazsing when set up right .

if someone can link me to either 210x50 210x52.5 or even 210x55 shocks that are better than the shock i have then please it will be much appreciated.

I have 210x55 on my Production Privee Shan no 5, and frankly the sizing is a bit of a pain as not many bikes seem to use it - you can certainly get CCDB Inline coil which I went for on the end and it’s very good, but you do need to be prepared to fiddle with it to get best out of it. There are super deluxe coils available too, but as with your air shock getting the right mount seems to be a faff...

yes mate its just a balls ache without breaking the bank as im getting the new RC2 lyriks to replace the Pike RC i want to keep it fox free lol ..i might just leave it and ride with the shock thats on it and see what comes out . send a few emails to shops and se whats what ..when i can affod it i will maybe then get the ohlins coil for it like i have on my kenevo .with a cost of around £700+ with coil .

i know the shock i have on it will not take those big hits i hit on my trails i use and now im hitting them harder than ever the better i get and the riding i do i thought changing now is the best thing and sell the shock on as new never been used same goes for the pike RC.

“i know the shock i have on it will not take those big hits i hit on my trails i use“

If you haven’t ridden the bike with it, how do you know this? Also, a Deluxe should take big hits just as well as a Super Deluxe until you’re doing very long rough descents where the piggyback helps with cooling.

The shock tune is specific to the bike and if it works well at your weight and riding style then an “upgraded” shock is unlikely to work as well without a custom tune (unless you buy something with tons of adjustments like a Cane Creek).

I’m riding a Levo with a Lyrik RC2 up front and the stock Deluxe RT works really well for me, they’re a great match. I didn’t expect it to be that good because my other full-sus has a DBair but this basic Deluxe feels better!

chiefgrooveguru

have you ever rode at Golspie ?

Im not sure the shock would last that 5.7km decent (black decent) . And my weight at 240 lbs with full kit .

Do bikes have weight limits still? I remember my friends carbon White was around 16 stone. I looked on specialized website but couldn't see anything.

Is your bike new? If so it has a warranty. Ride your bike as hard as you want and if it doesn't hold up, you take it back to the shop. As long as it doesn't have a weight limit or you are under it, there won't be any issues.

I don't understand why you would buy an expensive bike then upgrade it straight away without trying it. I understand the resale point but you might be wasting your money buying the same shock but with a piggy back and the wrong tune. If you buy a new shock it may need a retune to set it up for your bike.

I recommend you ride the bike and if you don't get on with the shock, save up for a cane creek or similar. The shock might surprise you, give it a chance..

Marginally better, but only the same amount of adjustment, probably gain more from having your existing shock rebuilt and reshimmed for your weight and riding style. Jake@SprungSuspension is on a Stumpy, so know what would work.
