Hi,
used to come here in the past when I wanted to enjoy biking and now life is affording me that.
basically I want a stumpy - always pined after them and never could justify it and tbh still can't as not sure will get lots of use but I have seen some lovely bikes for sale "cheap" - I assume due to that they are 26" - which doesn't bother me in the slightest.
now thoughts on would you put your money on a 2007 stumpy carbon or a 2011 fsr comp stumpy? is it better to have the newer frame or the older better spec? honestly not trolling.... thoughts?
2011, the 2007 is an old bike, the 2011 is the first of the modern 140mm stump jumpers (assuming we are talking about FSR models)
I wouldnt even consider a second hand carbon frame from 2007.
2011 model is better anyway.
^^^I'd agree with the above, apart from the slightly pedantic point that it was 2010 that the design changed to the 140mm more trail oriented models that have stayed largely similar since.
I originally had a 2010 FSR with the alloy frame. It had a paint issue so went back to Sepcialized and I was offered the carbon version for a £50 charge (they'd run out of alloy frames so the only other option was to wait for the 2011 alloy frames).
I went for the carbon option.
Any difference...? Erm, nope. Not that I can tell. It feels a bit different as it came with the Brain shock rather than the triad fitted to the alloy one I had.
The carbon frame might be stiffer on a lab bench, but I can't notice the difference when riding it.

Pedantic point number 2 is that the 2010 had a straight steerer head tube so 2011 is when they really went modern and let you use a tapered fork, no big shakes but makes upgrading a pain if you were to buy a 2010 now

its a comp so comes with the triad shock and I think that is meant to be less hassle than the brain shock?
but really grateful for your thoughts - i'll get myself the 2011.

True for the alloy ones, but pedantic point number 3 - Carbon 2010 has a tapered steerer. 😉 😀
When they swapped all the bits from my frame over to the carbon frame, they had to put an adaptor into the lower headset for the straight steerered fork....
I agree about the straight headtube being a pain if buying a bike now.
