Is it just me or does everyone have piles of bits like bars, tyres, odds and sods, etc that ain't worth selling coz either you won't get enough to cover the cost of postage or get enough to make it worthwhile going to the post office (from a time/money perspective)

What do you do with it all other than chuck it out or give it to mates when they need some spares?

Simply leave it to accumulate. It's got to come in handy one day right?

Ooops - thats what my garage looks like - one big jumk pile - old bars, knackered shifters, spare old bolts, plastic bits that came off old muddies etc. I have found a use for some things - thinking of building back up my old rockhopper with all the old parts. Well the ones which still work!

Yep, got loads of it...

Usually end up just keeping it for when it comes in handy and it often does either fixing up bikes, building bikes for mates, etc.

Yup, got a pile of bits on the basis "too good to through out, but not actually useful to me".

Stuff like wheels with wrecked hubs, but perfectly fine rims - only I can't be bothered to unlace them, and even if I did I CBA posting a rim, etc.

What's needed is some sort of massive bike kit car boot sale.

It'll all be used come the apocalypse!

I think this was the link you wanted: http://www.thebristolbikeproject.org - a mate of mine actually does this 🙂

They're still not having my stuff I'm afraid - useful to keep.

Unless of course it's a different Bristol Bike Project he works at? He's definitely called Hamish - tall guy, top bloke, very cheerful 🙂

In Bristol we have a monthly jumble sale

What a brilliant idea!

My personal bike weakness is tyres...oh, and saddles...err, and tubes..

Anyone else in Sheffield wanna get a bike jumble sale going?
(or know if there's an existing one?)

What kind?

Dirty Jo is an 18" frame, not used that much, it was my lads, but within a year he grew out of it and we had to get a 20" frame, but as I said, it's got a Deore crankset already on it, can't get the chainring side off, the threads are buggered, but i'm sure with a little ingenuity some one could get them off. And will sell, not donate, it's me lads, and he'll need the money for beer

as for the pedals, they are the cheapo crank brothers c or the cheapo candy's

I also have a complete on one i want to sell as well if anyone is interested...........and two kids

It'll all be used come the apocalypse!

That makes me think of this website.

After the apocalypse, everything will change, including the laws of physics as we know them. We, due to our experience in riding chopper bicycles, tallbikes, and the like, will finally find ourselves at the top of the food chain, and it is we who will lead humanity out of the rubble and into the pleasure gardens.

well, that's a 3 year old ish inbred frame, currently in 27speed guise, got mainly shimano deore for gears, and deore hubs with mavic rims, Marzochi Bomber forks, easton stem and oversize flat bars, MAgura Julie brakes, truvative crankset, I've got a picture somewhere, i'll stick it on, unless you can email me, i can send it through email, my address is in my profile, but I suppose around the 350, +p+p

best thing to do is try and sell it, always remember one mans rubbish is another mans gold 😉

I sold loads of stuff the other month and made enought to put a large deposite on me new steed.

Worth giving it a go, plus it will give you something to do.

you never know you might find something at the bottom of the pile that you might need 😉

There are some things in my junk pile that I'm actually quite fond of, despite their apparent obsolescence. Faves include a Stars and Stripes Airforce II helmet, luminous yellow Onza L-bends and a pair of Suntour "self-energising" brakes. Come the Apocalypse, I'll look like a teenage MBUK reader circa 1993. 😀

Mr Agreeable - that website never fails to amuse. Think they once wrote a very funny article for Grand Royal, but I could be wrong.

I have a RM switch from 2003. Not worth much nowadays, despite all the expensive bits on it.

Would it be worth having a sticky classifieds thread for this sort of stuff that could be given away to needier causes? I know other forums do it.

I've given away all my tatt lately so nothing left but sure others have enough to make it worthwhile.
