I've got a set of RF Evolve XC with the self extracting system.

The bigger 10mm hex-cap is in place but the 8mm crankbolt won't budge.

Tried soaking it in WD40 then using a long'ish bar on the 8mm hex key to move it, but it won't budge.

Any ideas?

Use a longer bar. 🙂

My first reaction would be to remove the outer extractor cap and see if you can free it a little. Then re-tighten and refit the extractor? Grease the inside face of the extractor too I reckon.

On a serious note.
I'd use a long breaker bar and a short allen socket in this situation.
Then you can get some propper leaverage on it without fear of it slipping.

I had the extractor cap snap on me which meant that I couldn't get a normal extractor in as the extractor was still threaded into the crank arm. I think the best thing to do would be remove the extractor cap and then get a bigger bar on the 8mm bolt, I now use a 2ft bar for loosening the 8mm bolt and a torque wrench to tighten but I will never use the extracting cap.
