You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Evening all,
Was attempting to service my Newmen hubs and one of the bearings disintegrated leaving the outer race stuck in the hub - I can’t see a way to get it out, is a shop likely to be able to?
Cheers.
I'd very carefully use a dremel to try and cut it out.
Yes a decent shop will deal with it no problem, removing outer bearing races is a regular occurrence.
A blind puller is normally the easiest/fastest

Heating the hub (heat gun, hair dryer or boiling water) will reduce the removal force required (the alloy hub will expand more than the steel bearing race)
There was a chap on here about a fortnight ago with the same problem, he got his out OK, have a rummage for that thread.
Hammer and very sharp flat headed screwdiver?
I bought a fancy flatheaded screwdriver for exactly this job.
after the blind bearing puller pulled -most- of the bearing out.
Bearing races are very hard making them brittle. Should be easy enough to crack and remove with a cold chisel and hammer. Just be careful not to bah your wheel.
I’d very carefully use a dremel to try and cut it out.
I'd very carefully ignore this advice 🙂
As suggested above,
Either a blind bearing puller or tap out gently with a hammer \ screwdriver from the opposite side.
It's not a big deal, a regular occurrence so a bike shop will deal with it no problem if you're a bit nervous about it.
Yep, had this and definitely +1 for the puller.
Where are you based OP? Maybe someone can led you kit or help?
