Trying to get the rubber seals around the rim and having great difficulty so after some tips. Iv managed to get he strip all way around the rim so that the edges fit under the lip apart from the last 8 inches or something like that, and I can get it all under but then I have a little bit of slack rubber. I just cant see it going, am I doing something wrong?

Is that on both wheels ????
Personally only ever used tape but I'd have thought whatever you did they should be tight .. I know on 24" kids wheels many use 20" tyres cut to make the liner.... so from that perspective I can't see how you'd have any slack...

Either its too tight under the rim lip (and that's causing the slack) or you got a dud ???

If its a dud then the other one should be different....
If it's too tight under the rim lip then your better with tape anyway....

Have you got a 650b on a 26" rim?

I also just use duck tape, or if I'm feeling flush, Stan's yellow rim tape. So if all else fails you could cut out the valve and use it with duck tape.

I wondered that but I don't think so. Iv got some Gorilla tape at the ready so if all else fails

A trick I used to employ when fitting new rimtape (one piece rubber stuff) was to get a pencil/pen (not a screwdriver/metal thing you might damage the finish of the rim) and use it to lift the tape of the rim bed, so that the pen is bridging the gap and resting on the rim walls. Then I'd slowly run the pen round the outside of the rim this would help center the tape over the rim bead and you could also move the valve hole on the tape inline with the valve on the rim.

Not sure if that's of any help. I also ghetto tubeless'd my 26inch wheel with 20" inner tubes before. So the tape should be nice and tight to the rim bed.

EDIT:

Now I just use gorilla tape. Might need more than 1 layer.

How do you know if you need more than just 1 layer of Gorilla tape?

Iv gone gorilla tape and its worked, well so far. Im not 100% sure about the valves so iv stuck some roof sealant under them to make a seal.

Iv pumped th up to 50psi and done a quick 5 min ride round the block. When i pumped them up some stans did ooze a little but nothing major.

I suppose il see how they are in the morning,, fingers crossed.

Proper tubeless valves seem to just work.... I've used some cheap specialised ones before and the pressure seems to keep em where they are meant to be ... I'd bet the ghetto ones would as well...

A bit of ooze is normal, I've had puddles from old tyres full of punctures and they all seal with a bit of shaking unless there is a huge tear ... and even then a inner tube patch inside and superglue outside (in the actual tear) has worked....

50 psi... that would blow my kids tyres off his Stans Crest. I only know this because I did it! One hell of a bang! (and sealant all over the kitchen) .. worse I did it about 4am in the morning (working nights) and the OH came down "wtf happened" .. and I'm sheepishly trying to mop up sealant

[b]So I think "so far" will be good..[/b].. the longer its in the better (within obvious limits)
