just taken delivery of shiny new float x2 and bought new heavy duty mount kits form TF tuned as old ones were pretty worn in preparation for fitting. same size i've bought before, 22mm wide for an sc nomad, but can't get the shock to fit with the new kit.
the shock seems to come with yellow bushes pre-fitted which sit proud of the eye and form a lip round it which ive not seen before. with the axel pin inserted there's no room for the rubber seals as well as the spacers so have ditched the seals as figure the the slight top hat of the bushing is acting as bushing and seal all in one. however when you fit the aluminium spacers on the axel pin there's no way it's going in the frame as fractionally too wide. as i say, definitely the right width kit as the axle pin on its own fit perfectly in the frame, so the width of what sits proud on the bushings is obviously fractionally wider than the rubber seals - if that makes sense
only thing i can think to do is remove the pre-fitted bushing and replace with regular DU bushings and re-fit kit, but as they have a slight lip on them i can't see how you can drive them out. Or i've been a complete idiot and the yellow things aren't bushings at all and are overly elaborate protection for the shock eye in transit / storage - but still cant see how you would drive them out and don't want to start slipping around with pliers on a shiny new shock.
what am i doing wrong?
The yellow bushes are split in the middle and pull out from either side as opposed to pushing through the shock eyelet.
You need to either get the fox spacers and pin or remove the yellow bushes and fit the HD bush that goes with the rest of the HD kit.
@ssstu - cheers, is it just some very gentle pliers work to pull them out then?
EDIT - tried pliers, can't get any purchase and starting to cut up the bushings through slipping. Foxmounting kit it is, God knows how I'll get the bushings out when they're worn though
With the proper removal tool.
With the proper removal tool.
Excellent yet another bushing removal tool I need. Bit of pita, would of been a lot easier if they came with the DU bushings they used to!
Just shove a flat screwdriver in and kind of twist.. they pop out dead easily..
I have one that seems to be the right size and gets grip on the inner part of the plastic bush and pops it out without touching the shock eyelet itself. It's maybe 4mm wide..? But experiment and you'll get it out easily. (Probably damage it in the process - but whenever I've taken them out, they're needing replaced so not been an issue).
Don't use a screwdriver, use a Stanley knife.
