Need to replace two spokes on my wheel. I'm trying to work out the length without having to take apart the wheel and measuring them, although the time it's taken maybe I should just embrace the snow and hit the shed.
I've searched some threads and found links to some calculators but they don't seem to list exactly what I have. For instance http://www.prowheelbuilder.com/spokelengthcalculator/ doesn't list my rims.
This is a rear wheel with Shimano M525 disc hubs, Alex SX44 rims, 32 spokes which cross 3 times.
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a simple calculator?
Remove a spoke from the wheel and either measure it or take it to your lbs and ask them to match it.
Otherwise, the wheelpro calculator has the measurements for your hub and you should be able to get an ERD for your rim by googling. It may not be accurate, though. First option would be safer.
Best bet is to remove a spoke, but you can probably do it on an existing spoke in situ. Nipples are usually 12mm, so measure from the inside of the knuckle of the spoke to the near end of the nipple, and add 11mm, so that the spoke just reaches the bottom of the slot in the head of the nipple. 1mm either way should be fine.
As a check, a 12mm nipple will have about 7mm visible through the rim.
Get Spokecalc excel sheet off the net. Look up your hub and rim. If its a rear, make sure you know which side. The Spokecalc sheet will give you the exact length.
