Hi
I have a aluminium frame that has a silver original finish, but the laquer is peeled in places as well as a few marks here and there.
I would like to bring it back to life by stripping and re-laquering?
Is this possible?
What is the process? Nitromors?
Any one done it before?
Can it be blasted somehow?
Thanks
Bead blasting would give you a dull finish that would be a PITA to get back to a nice finish. Probably best to see if any painters/powdercoaters local could 'dip' it for you.
Ball polishing. There, I've said it.
Hardens the surface too.
Nitromors and a pair of latex (or similar) gloves, use an old credit card as a scraper to avoid damage/scratches. Scotchbrite (kitchen scourer) to get an even and keyed finish before laquering.
A blasting/painting place might do a chemical dip for you. Easier than faffing on with nitromors.
We do bike re-spraying and rebuilds and we allways get the frames plastic beadblasted after stripping them down , the plastic bead process does not pit or damage the ally in any way , we dont even have to mask the BB as it is so good. Our blasters even use it on carbon fibre without damaging the surface, but it must be PLASTIC bead.
