Need a favour from an Edinburgh based Strava user.

I'm racing the Redbull hill chasers event next weekend up a street in the city called Cockburn Street and I'm wondering if someone can set up a segment for me to have a gander at the hill?

Postcode is EH1 1BS.

Thanks in advance.

Why can't you? Do you need to have a ride that covers the street?

Isn't it a one way street downhill. I thought the event was up Victoria St

Qualifying is up Cockburn St, final is up Victoria Street. Got my entry but rather deterred by the 6am start!

Ace, good work that man. 🙂

Little baby cobbles then, not big scary ones! Phew!

Haha. Yeah a bit anal but if I'm making a 700mile round trip to ride a hill then I maybe wanna check it out first. 😉

How about Streetview? It's not a huge hill, and not particularly steep, so it will be more of an extended uphill sprint than a conventional hill climb. The surface is cobbled, which will make things a bit harder.

You can probably find some video of the Edinburgh Nocturne online as well, which will give you an idea of the hill.

You won't win 😉 , my money is on Gareth Montgomerie of Team GT (local rider to us), he's had a 3rd and 2nd in the previous Red Bull hill chasers and i think 1st place is his as it's on home turf this year. But good luck anyway, there's always 2nd and 3rd to fight for 😀

Only joking - best o' luck dan as that's a helluva distance to travel for a sub 30 second race, we'll cheer you on

Having murdered the previous winner Ben Simmons by over a minute in our national hillclimb champs I think I could have a shout Somafunk. :-p

In reality it's neither long or steep so won't suit a climber at all, more of a sprinters climb. 🙁

My goal now is to get up the qualifier as fast as I possibly can, so I can go back to bed quicker for a few hours before driving down to innerleithen, for the open practice for the enduro the next day. So it is just as well I have zero chance of qualifying

Christ!...I may have to re-evaluate my loyalty and betting strategy on the night then, good luck dan and yeah - if you can sprint and have explosive power from the off and get in front then you stand a chance up that hill as it is a short and totally anaerobic climb, "if" you can get the power down on the cobbles and it's not raining on the night.

Best o' luck 🙂

I have no sprint Somafunk! 🙂 I'm an aerobic climber, need a couple of miles to get into my stride. Doh!

Should be a good laugh anyway.

Surveyed the course very carefully from the Bow Bar this afternoon with a pint of Tyne Bank Heavenly Porter a half of of Tempest World of Pain in hand.

Can confirm it is both steep and cobbled and uneven from my observation of the steady procession of bicyclists making their way up the hill.
