Not exactly bike as I'm using my phone to record run data, but Strava....so...erm.
Anyway, I've been using my old Sony phone with no SIM for Strava and it's been working great. It's a lot smaller than my current phone so easier to hold & is old & battered, so if I drop it, it doesn't really matter. I've been using it like this since probably early September with no issues at all.
At the weekend I went for a run & prior to going Strava gave me the error "internet connection failed". I was at my parents at the time, so re-connected to their wi-fi. Same problem. Which was weird because I could look at Google Maps including live traffic info & get on any website I wanted - so the phone was clearly connected to the internet.
I did the run and wasn't able to upload it because of the same issue - 'Internet Connection Failed' in Strava.
A Strava support post about this recommended logging out & back in - which I did. Now I am not able to log back in, as I still get the same error.
I ended up uninstalling the app & re-installing it but I still have the same problem - I can't even log-in now. Short of doing a factory reset on the phone, I am at a loss how to solve it.
Has anyone else seen this issue & solved it?
Maybe it's a sign that I should bite the bullet & buy a GPS watch!?
just download another GPS app like wahoo fitness which can upload to strava.

Ah. Now that is a good idea! Thanks.
I couldn't sync my feed on starva all on Sunday. I think Strava servers were probably down.
This was on Saturday the 12th.
And the problem still haven't resolved itself - I tried last night.
It's not a 'data sync failed' problem - it reports that it can't find internet connection, even though the phone is definitely connected to the internet. I've tried it on 2 different wi-fi networks now & also using my phone as a wi-fi hotspot & I get the same problem.
I have found various random posts reporting the same problem over the last few yrs, but no solution from Strava apart from log-out & back in again. Hopefully trying Wahoo Fitness & linking to Strava will resolve it - so long as Wahoo Fitness will work with my old phone...!
Dunno - but I can imagine the anxiety.

More like mild annoyance, but thanks anyway...
Had this on Sunday, resolved after multiple goes, fine now.

Did that as an experiment. Used it for the first time today. A 53 mile ride used up 60% of my battery power. Uninstalled and experiment over. That power consumption is just crazy.

Last night I tried it on the phone I'm having issues with & it wouldn't install because the version of Android is not supported by the app, so I can't even try it.
It's a 6yr old Xperia T, but most other apps run on it without complaint.
Did a factory reset yesterday & re-installed as a last ditch attempt to sort it - still not working with the same issue as before. Think I'll have to admit defeat.
Just to follow up...Strava needs Android 4.4 and above to function. My Xperia T is a little behind that and there are no updates available.
So, I have ditched it and nicked my Wife's old Galaxy S4 Mini which works fine, but isn't as easy to hold.
If you look on xda developers you might find a newer android version you can flash onto the Sony.

I considered that, but this is on the Strava support website...
Strava can be installed on Android operating systems KitKat 4.4 or above (CyanogenMod or other nonstandard Android OS versions are not supported)

Put the phone in airplane mode, to disable wi-fi and phone comms - this will save loads of battery power, whilst still allowing GPS to function
No help but has anyone else had strava app randomly open recently?
