I’ll get this bit out of way. I ****ing hate Strava and all of the competitive bullshit.

I use it to record where I ride. Mainly because I’ll take a turn somewhere where I’ve never been before and my memory is shocking to be able to find that route again.

The last couple of rides have large missing pieces of data. I’ll set it recording and it will miss 4-5 miles off the beginning. Roughly the same route, it’s recorded it in the past no problem. This is round the city limits, not in some poor signal wood or out in the sticks somewhere.

Anyone else had issues?

I’ve tried looking on the desktop website to see if I can drag and drop the approximate route on a map, but I’m coming up stumps.

What are you using to record your rides?

iPhone SE. It’s the same phone I’ve used for the last 2.5 years. No software update apart from the app. Which it may well be. Just wondering if it is the app and others are experiencing the same?

Sounds like you are not giving the recording app time to get a gps lock at the start of your ride, on my Lezyne Super GPS it typically takes at least 2mins. I've not used the Strava Android app to record a ride for ages.

Something I discovered once I'd given up hope in it to record my rides was that bizarrely (in my eyes), the Sony Smar****ch 3 is quicker at getting a gps lock while moving, the amount of times early on in using it ~3 years ago when I'd be standing over the bike by the garage getting infuriated at how long it was taking!

There was a note on the Strava site a couple of weeks ago which said they were experiencing problems with google maps which underpins their tracking, but the note has since disappeared. I guess there may still be intermittent issues which are being resolved.

I get loads of dodgy reading when I ride in the centre of Manchester but out in the suburbs or hills it's fine. It started when I got a samsung s10, s6 was fine.  But also when 5G was switched on, makes you think...

Glad it's not just me. Yes, I've had similar having not had any issues for two years on the same phone now so pretty sure it isn't the hardware at fault. Rides over the last three or four weeks have had sporadic location jumps and timing errors.

I had a similar problem...

Was using a Garmin 520 with very accurate recording. Lost the Garmin so switched to my Samsung S8 and tracking was all over the place.
Bought a Garmin 530 and recording is rock solid.

Conclusion: it's your device not Strava!

(I installed "GPS Test" app on my phone and it confirmed that the phone was losing the GPS signal. I'm guessing the GPS antenna in my phone has been damaged from dropping the phone, cos it used to be really accurate when I got the phone)

Yeah mines been doing it recently too. I run alpinequest on my phone as well as strava but alpinequest seems to record a more accurate route
