Balls missed the entry again. On the waiting list. Probably a good thing as its beyond my capabilities but that's what appeals.

It's getting close now. Whether it's on or not is still hanging in the balance. We've got a place for a team of four but the mojo has dropped simply because we're coming up from Chester, still need to invest in some kit like a gazebo, heating, snow-chains etc but if it's all canned then what's the point. Also feeling a bit lame because of the famous 'puffer atmosphere just won't be as it should be; no spectactors, smaller numbers (might make course less battered)....

We were planning on driving up on the day to meet our scottish team member who would have driven up beforehand to meet his bro (7 puffer veteran) for registration. Get onto the course, setup camp and get riding. Then drive back on the sunday, maybe stopping over half way.

So who's going, who's not sure and what is everyone's plans?!?!!?

Still planning on going (pair) and awaiting any announcement. Have the 'motorhome' (horsebox) and generator etc so no outlay other than drive there with it full of bikes. Park up and go to the hotel on the Friday night.
Id reckon the atmosphere should still be intact with the other competitors on the firetrack climbs and marshalls.
If i had to buy/hire kit and a big outlay, my feelings might differ right now. Lets just wait on the assessment/outcome and watch the Strathpuffer pages and Facebook Forum. Hopefully get clarity soon

I'm in as a quad. Hoping to do well, top ten or five with a bit of luck, but not taking it especially seriously as I've not raced since the last Puffer.

Really excited for it,feeling fit and eager and have a good team and already have a pile of brake pads.

Not to be negative nancy but I think realistic hopes of it going ahead are slim .

129 quads 125 solos and 139 pairs plus their non spectatoring support crews from all over the UK , cramming into small camper vans and tents.

Not to mention the probably harm that the negative impression of playing fast and loose with "interpretation" of the rules would leave on the local business with the locals they have to live with the rest of the year.

Their choice .....

That said My vans ready if they make that call.

Too much of a wimp to do it but want to see what the craic is, so I'm pitting
.
Also means I've not wasted months of prep if plague does scupper it☹

I was about to book our pre and apres accommodation this afternoon.

I think I'll hold off for now.

Shite.
From the Puffer forum on Facebook
"Sadly it looks like the Puffer's off..... We're working on the details so we'll have more info for you in the next few days.
Meantime get vaxxed, wear a mask and stay safe."

Wow, this discussion over quick! I was getting quite excited hearing others were keen as mustard. Just read the email. What a bummer.
Be interesting to see what the weather does anyway and whether it would be a snowy, wet or dry one!

Happy Christmas everyone!

Well I'm secretly relieved as I wasn't going to make it due to illness destroying my fitness, but it's gutting for the organisers and people who've spent money on hotels/van hire etc. I guess I've got another year to get fit again.

Yeah, what a bummer. A year of training and riding in the pishing rain for nought. But it's only a bike race.

Importantly, this will save me loads on money on brake pads and bearings 😁

Small consolation for us - my lad was due to do his first puffer (quads) in 20201 and he's still waiting. It means he'll be 14 in 2023 so I can race too and not chaperone him.

Inconsistent statements mr Bradley

I was training for Puffer '21, postponed, roll training target forward to the Loch Ness 360.
Loch Ness 360 postponed, roll training target forward to Puffer '22.
Training target now rolled forward to Loch Ness 360, again.

Hey ho.

Wow just checked the strathpuffers page on Facebook in light of the latest guidance updates from Scottish cycling to see if any changes.

Wow there are some sad nasty people* out there with minimal empathy taking a pop at the press release sentiment.

* Some of whom appear to have joined just to make their agenda and don't actually appear to ride bikes it seems.....

To be fair I clocked him as a cyclist but a few of the others are questionable.

Most of them appear to be there for one reason only. I guess that's the downside of Facebook groups being open to all now.

Only if you opt out.... Given 9 months of the year there's no interaction with the page they probably don't realise it so are inundated with the vocal minority now
