just bought some new hope hoops (stans flows), and when descending im getting a pretty bad rattle/clunky type noise when going over rocky stuff from the rear end, it basically sounds like the rim is being hit straight on like ive got a flat tyre (which it isnt)...
im running them tubeless same pressures as my old xm819s, though as in a previous thread i stated the tyres feel so much harder even run the same pressure, so i dont know whether its something as simple as that...
ive also checked tightened cassette, and freehub is firmly in...
i emailed hope who said there is a possibility that a crush plate is loose on the rim where its welded together as they have had this before, but ive not got the foggiest what that means or how to locate it to put a blob of superglue on...
shock seems to be ok, propedal is working and rebound so im guessing its not that but not 100%sure also..
running a xtr clutch mech so not chainslape etc
any more thoughts? can it really be as simple as tyre pressure given that its the same pressures as before? as i said before the tyres do feel much harder than previously on xm819s usts but are identical pressure via gauge...
Might be your testes banging together- Have you tried different underpants?
Full suss? Shock bushes maybe?
tyre pressure change would be an easy try to see if it fixed it?
is the wheel tight in the frame?
did you change anythign else at the same time?
bearings etc fine no movement at all, im starting to wonder if its the shock now
ive had it few years back where it just felt like i was constantly dinging my rims on descents, but that felt so different with the shock as it made no difference in propdeal or open and the damping wasnt making any difference so i kinda knew there was something wrong...at the moment the propedal appears fine and rebound seems fine too
i didnt have this noise/clunk/rattle until last week when put new wheels on 🙁
Shock bushes
is there some movement when you lift it by the saddle?
also i kinda thought it may have been as id gone back to rear 9mmQR untill i could get hold of some adaptors, but ive since put my 10mm back in and its still the same

is there some movement when you lift it by the saddle?
nope not got any movement in frame at all (and i know what its like when bearings in pivot have gone before, so defo cant see it being that)
Rattle noise in rim.
You may have a loose weld sleeve. This is used in the weld process as a heat sink. It is crimped into place with a dimple in the material being visible at the weld junction. Occasionally the crimp does not hold and the plate comes loose. It is not a structural element of the rim so the best solution is to remove the rim tape and apply a little non-water based glue between the weld plate and the rim. Tubular cement or super glue will do the job. All rim makers use a weld plate and run into this situation on occasion. Please call NoTubes if you need yellow tape to reapply to the rim.
just read that on the stans website- which is basically what hope put in the email..
I recently had this with some new wheels I put on the inbred.
Had me stumped for ages, in the end I traced it to rear cassette. Is seemed loose but lock-ring was tight.
Got a very thin spacer from LBS and problem solved.
I have since bought another set of identical wheels and they came with spacer.
Worth a look.
