Hi all,
Mavic Aksium hub, 105 chain, cassette and rear mech. When you coast along it seems the freehub catches every couple seconds and flicks the chain forwards. Doesn't do it when pedalling or spinning the cranks by hand.
Before I try strip the hub down, any thought? The mech hanger may be a tiny bit bent, could it be that?
Cheers,
Duane.
The run on one bearing and a big assed bushing.Which periodically gets gunked up and can stick.5 minute job to whip it off a clean.Relube with wet condition chain lube...NOT grease.
Thanks. I found this guide:
https://fernandoj.wordpress.com/2013/09/09/swapping-a-shimano-mavic-aksium-wheel-freehub-to-campagnolo/
And followed that for removing the freehub body (not exactly complicated). When I first put it back together, I did the allen key and nut up pretty tight, and it made all sorts of horrible noises when I cranked the pedals. I then loosened it off a bit, and it's much better, no chain being pulled forward.
However, I can feel slight movement in the axle (as I loosened it off), and this is audible when I spin the cranks by hand. Any idea on how to know how tight to do the freehub back up?
Ta,
Duane.
There's a washer between the freehub and axle, which is probably on the floor now.Unless it's newer one which has it pressed into the bearing.
Managed to spot that before it disappeared, so that is still there.
Any idea on how to know how tight to do the freehub back up?
In the wordpress guide that you linked to it says 10Nm (9th photo caption) which isn't much

Thanks a bunch.
It looks like the freehub body can wobble with respect to the hub/axle - could this be due to the nut being a little loose, or something else?
Anyone? Not sure how to know how tight to do the nut up, as there is no change in tightness between it being too loose and too tight!
Hi all,
Still having issues with this - anyone on here experts with these hubs?
As above, if I do the freehub side fork support nut up too tight, the axle cannot spin. If I don't do it up so tight, well, it's not tight and can come un-done easily!
I'm pretty sure I have all the bits from page 8 of:
Any help would be much appreciated, doing my nut in!
