^ wow! the difference between 26ers and 29ers look SO much greater in that photo 🙂

No triple - in fact SS (pic taking when I did the conversion)or seat QR but hopefully it qualifies for this thread.

But I still ride this - now with different pedals and awaiting headset strip down / re-build.

Nice bike Tomaso.

That comment about your next bike got me thinking. I am (perhaps wrongly) reading between the lines and viewing your new choice to be the 'modern equivalent' of your current bike.

What would that 'modern' twist/take be for my humble old Fisher?

Here's my backburner project, trying not to go off the rails like I usually do with builds and get it all in one go. Still to get is narrow wide sprocket, XT block with 40t big ring, BETD shock linkage (to bump the rear upto 110mm) XT 4 pots and I've got a set of Hope Hoops waiting to go on.

This is mine. To stand in for the tapered steerer, stupid BB, daft axle size (but normal wheeled) plastic thing which broke (and has since been fixed).

Here's my newly built up 456 Evo with a set of NOS Pikes from Devs of this parish.

Got some wheels off Northwind with Minion/Highroller combo to go on but want to eek a bit more life out of the tyres on it before I swap over (tight Tyke).

Colour matching is not really my thing as you can tell (and I've just bought some bright green shorts which seem to clash with the bike a bit).

OK it has wide tyres and 1x10 (i've ran 1x something since i started mtbing in '07 so i'm allowed that) but this is offset by not having one of those modern QR seat clamps. Bars are a neo-classic 720mm and front wheel/forks are 20mm but date from '07 also. My stem looks a bit short (only 70mm) compared to some up there 😯

Yeah I think I'm fairly local to you and given the less than abundant riding we are blessed with I'm also surprised. I do ride at some proper random times though (was over braggy at 4am the other morning for example) got any pics of yours? I've only seen the raw built up (and now dangerousbeans ltd edition yellow up there ^)

Straight steerer, QR wheels, wide bars(640mm) with bar ends, but sadly no triple or qr seat-clamp as I just leave the saddle high all the time.

Bars might be a bit wide. tyres are bigger than 2.1. The chainset started out as a triple. Points back for hex key seatpost collar, not even qr? 🙂

My stem looks a bit short (only 70mm) compared to some up there

Those forks are older than 2007...the first 36's introduced in 2005 were poo brown. As far as I can remember, the colour was dropped by 2006. I still have a pair in the garage that I need to sell but can't quite bring myself to do it.

Here's my semi-obsolete bike (points deducted for wide bars, chunky tyres and a 1x10 drive train, but I've done the one up thing for a while now).

It has straight 1 1/8th steerer, 20mm front axle, 135mm QR rear axle, standard BB, is steel and has a 27.2mm post.

[IMG] [/IMG]

The picture is slightly old because the X0 mech has been swapped for a Zee.

I'm trying to buy my old fashioned bike frame back from who I sold it to 2 years ago- but he wants 3x what I sold it to him for 2 years ago! 🙁

Makes me want to just say bollocks to it and buy a new frame!
I'm still kind of tempted though, but I know the guys a greedy bastard.

It's got wide bars and a 1 x 10 drivetrain, but everything else is out of fashion, especially as it's not made from Reynolds tubing or a Cotic!

I decided to sit-out the wheel size debate last year - and gave my 2010 Mk2 Cotic Soul a makeover:

[img] [/img]

Re-sprayed in autumn 2013 from black to two-pack white by Argos.

Sporting a custom pewter head badge, with new decals from Cotic and Reynolds. I also gave the 2010 Fox F120 forks (bought heavily discounted but new in 2013) and DT rims new 2013/14 decals at the same time.

Now rolling on 2.4 Mountain Kings, but otherwise as per pic: XT/R, with Hope and Thomson where it matters.

I keep being attracted to 27/29/generally more "rad" options, but then realise that most of them are very small variations on what I already have or would be too much for my needs. 🙂

I really should have had a 1.5 head tube stuck on though...

Garage full of out of date, boring bikes...but one is a 1.5" steerer, does that count 😉

Unfashionable wheels, straight steerer, 3X9, tubed Panaracers, non-adjustable seatpost, QR rear and I still have loads of fun on it! 😀

I have a really old hardtail with a 1992 frame, but we're presumably after modern bikes which have been obsoleted by changing standards, so here's my ultimate bling bike. When I built this up in 2007 I thought it would last for many years as my ultimate bike.

[IMG] [/IMG]

No seat QR, but no dropper post either I've just always ridden full height. However it does have 26" wheels, straight 1 1/8" steerer (it is ZS, so in theory I have the option of tapered), QR wheels, 3x9, narrow flat bars (~560 in the pic, now 600), bar ends, 2.1 tyres.

Tiny little wheels, 2x9, piddly little 140 forks and a skinny seat tube.. My blue filing cabinet has clocked up over 500 miles this year, was my more than capable steed around Molini and I love it just as much as I did 4 years ago when I bought it.

@ devash. Love that Camber colour scheme (colorway as they prefer!) compared to my 26er Expert.

Started life as a Saracen Kili Racer circa 1993 with a poorly Headtube.
[IMG] [/IMG]
After a bit of surgery and removal of some unnecessary bits, fresh powdercoat and decals has been brought back to life.
I like to think of it as Nouveau Retro, old fashioned looks with new tech rolled in,such as 1x10 drivetrain, Carbon bars and other lightweight bits,Disc up front and Avid V brake at the rear.

This bike turns eleven in November, still quite a few original components.

26"
straight steerer
27.2mm seatpost
3x9 gears*

New to me 4 months ago and it'll be mine until either it breaks or, more likely, I do.

*although Father Christmas will hopefully make it 1x10, N/W + clutch mech.

Tange Prestige Concept. You don't need to know how much this decal cost me to buy during the bike resto.

2009 Pitch Pro. My newest bike. Probably best to skip this as it's not 650b and those top 10 strava downhill results must be wrong.

None of the above get used all that often now although until early this year the Cannondale and the Tinbred were my main bikes. I've added a couple "modern" bikes this year and I have to say really enjoying them so the older bikes aren't getting used as much. I have a 27.5 geared carbon hardtail and a 29er rigid single speed. The wheel size does make some difference but the biggest change/benefit for me is the more modern geometry.

Some very nice bikes here, especially Unovolos' Saracen!
Here's my other-halfs' Kona Kilauea; it's been sat in the shed since May, so decided to give it a revamp.
[img][/img]
I removed all the cable barrels and stops and silver-brazed on full outer barrels, plus some headtube rings to add a bit of strength there.

I know it doesn't fit the thread exactly, but I've been riding it to work and I forgot just how nice it was!
