Not used straight pull spoke wheels before, so unsure what to do?
Try buying both straights and j-bends.
Then you'll stick with j's 🙂
Depends what you're using the bike for, if you're about to head off round the world on a fully loaded touring bike, it may be wise to check availability of spares in the countries you intend to travel through.
I have straight pull spokes on one bike, can't say I've noticed any difference tbh.
No problems at all, 130kg rider on a 18kg full sus ebike, so nowhere near lightweight.
My wheels are dt ones, they were about £200, so not exactly expensive either.
^^ B R may have a valid point lol
No problems with straight pulls on a couple of sets of wheels. I built mine so just ordered a few spare spokes just in case.
I was going to look for a conventional bub but have been offered a straight pull hub so just wondered.
I can't build wheels so would need to get someone to do that for me.
I was probably going to get DT spokes from Rosebikes whichever I go for.
bike24 are pretty good for spokes: https://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=7&menu=1000%2C2%2C302%2C303&__qf_form-filter=&mid%5B69%5D=1&pgc%5B16666%5D%5B16679%5D=1

Far less likely to break a straight one though?
Cheers stevied another option.
@ molgrips, I believe thats true, but it wouldn't be much comfort when you've broken a spoke halfway across russia and the nearest shop has never seen a straight pull spoke.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst
EDIT: of course, would be much less annoying on an hour playing in the woods.

I've snapped a few spokes over the years and none at the J bend part. Most seem to snap about 50mm from the rim
Conventional, because straight pull has no real world benefits at all, and some drawbacks. The only reason to use SP is if a wheelset you want comes with it as standard, and even then, it's a black mark.
What's quite funny now is that at the same time as we're being sold boost as a standard because it has better triangulation which supposedly builds a usefully stiffer wheel, we're also sold SP hubs which generally have lower flanges and therefore worse triangulation. It's almost like it's all bullshit.

Nope.
Go conventional unless you really, really want straight pull.
I have both and notice no real world functional difference between them but as soon as I want to change a rim it is more hassle than it is worth to calculate spoke lengths and obtain spokes. My future is full of 32 holes with J bend spokes
