Hi Folks,

I am in the search of a of pair of 650b forks with a straight 1 1/8 steerer. It's for a Pipedream Sirius 2012, that wan't accept any thing else (besides 26" off course.)

I am looking for something in the like off a FOX Float - but SR Suntour, X-Fusion, RS etc. will do.

About 130 mm travel and preferably with a 15 mm QR.

I have searched all online shops I know of in the UK and Europe. Ebay and Pinkbike too - but nothing shows up.

I am based in Denmark and no shops here can help me.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers - Lui

That a start?
Head to Fox/Suntour/RS direct and see what the actually make, should tell you if you are wasting your time or not

Why not use a Hope pick n mix headset and then just use tapered forks?

Maybe I'm reading the info on the web wrong, but the Sirius seemed to have a tapered head tube, so should be able to take an external cup and then a tapered fork? OP says he is looking for an 1 1/8" fork, not that he has an 1 1/8" headtube - will be worth him checking the frame as a start

Shirley they dont make such a thing? First they changed to tapered forks then they changed to 650b, so im guessing your trying to fit 650b wheels into a 26er frame?

Presumably your bike was designed for 26"  why not just buy straight steerer forks for 26", this would open up more possibilities?

Hang on this article says its got a tapered headset?

I've been through all this when I was looking for forks for my Ritchey P-650b, although with 100mm forks instead so everything I know is tailored towards that.

26" Fox 32s will fit a 2.25 650b schwalbe in with some room to spare.

26" White Brothers Loops were sold as being both 26" and 650b compatible.

I think 26" Formula 33s will fit a 650b fork but I've never tried it.

If you play with the spacers in a Lefty you can pretty much get the travel/wheel size combo you want. I had a 90mm 29er that I (a shop really) took 1 of the 3 spacers out of to make a 100mm 650b fork. You might be able to make a 140mm 26" lefty (do they exist?) work although I don't know anything about the spacers inside.

Just had a google and this
https://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/gear/category/bikes/mountain-bikes/product/review-pipedream-sirius-frame-12-39838//a > article from Oct 2012 does suggest the Pipedream Sirius at the time had a tapered headtube.  Hate suggesting OP might not know their own bike, but unless this is a situation where a previous model was straight headtube and this was changeover year, it’s probably worth investigating the installed headset.  It was quite common back then for people to put reducer headsets in tapered headtubes to  avoid ‘new standards’... 😉

Don't worry - I am very well aware of the frames proportions and limitations - it's a 1 1/8 fork only. Pipedreams own info on this is very confusing. They are using photos of newer frames while they are describing older frames. The rear dropouts was also very confusing, but after sending them an email they confirmed that a Gen II frame 2012 accepts the 142 mm dropouts.

I have a nice 650b wheel set and plenty of tires laying around - 26 ain't dead - but I have left them behind.

RS - is still producing a 100 mm straight 1 1/8 9mm QR fork in 650b - this is going to be the back up solution.

C-Dale Lefy is a good suggestion too -  budget wise it's a bit steep for me. Will need a new front wheel as well.

White Brother and MRP is something I am on the look for at Ebay. DVO also.

Using 650b tires in 26 forks is something I'm going to avoid, as I prefer running a beefy front tire like Maxxis 2.35.

According to X-Fusion homepage - they are still producing the Streat and Velvet in 1 1/8.
http://www.xfusionshox.com/products/forks/streat-series/rl2

SR Suntour also states that the Raidon is still produced in 1 1/8.
http://www.srsuntour-cycling.com/ru/components/fork/Raidon-27-5-5607.html

I'll send them an email.

Thanks all!

Cheers.

Lui

You can run a tapered fork in some straight 1 1/8th headtubes by using an external 1.5" cup at the bottom. The headtube needs to have a straight 44mm internal bore.

But if it has an internal size of 44mm then it’s not an 1 1/8“ headtube.

Can you measure the approximate outside diameter of the top and bottom of the head tube? It would seem VERY weird for a frame to be 142 dropouts but 1"1/8 head tube.

It is but one that can do zero stack at both ends with a straight 1 1/8" steerer

Exapno - do you have a web shop link for that Manitou Marvel Comp?

The frame is EC34 mm - top and bottom - end of story - no trick will make a tapered fork fit :/

http://www.pipedreamcycles.com/shop/sirius-r853/ this link show 3rd Gen - all with tapered head tube, besides the last 3 photos showing the 2rd Gen with the EC34 head tube! Very confusing ... I know.

142 mm is possible due to sliding drops available from Pipedream - and they are probably made by Paragon.

The frame has many clever details, besides the nagging EC34 head tube.

Thanks again.

More suggestions on forks is highly appreciated.

If you are changing forks and have already got the wheels wouldn’t it make sense to swap frames at the same time? Can’t imagine it will cost too much especially when you consider you will probably pay a premium for the forks you want.

Have a look at  the ubyk website, they have x fusion velvet forks with a 1/1/8 steerer 15mm  hub adapter 140mm travel.

They comc as 26inch but you can convert  them to 650 with a spacer.

It says on the header that they are tapered but further down the ad it says 1/1/8.

I would try and find 26” Fox forks with QR15 and a straight steerer. They’re pretty uncommon, but I use these to run 650B wheels in a 26 frame with a straight head tube. Works fine.

luivium - I found them on Chainreactioncycles.com but their site is down for maintenance. The same fork is available at wiggle but I'm not sure if it's the same price.

http://www.wiggle.co.uk/manitou-marvel-comp-forks-9mmqr/

The Markhor has the correct steerer, although discontinued the marvel looks better value though.

What a royal pain in the rear op.

Hope you find a suitable fork in the end!

Won’t it ride better on 26” wheels? The BB height is not exactly low on the correct wheels and a longer A-C fork and bigger wheels will jack it up even more.

Those black Marvels from CRC/Wiggle are lovely forks!!! I was tempted to buy the external bottom headset and tapered Rebas for my bike recently, but then I saw the Marvel with 1 1/8" steerer and bought them instead. Absolutely amazing forks!

I used to have Marvel in 100mm flavour on the same bike, switched later to rigid... The new ones are 120mm, convertible to 100mm - but I reckon I'll keep them as they are, as it feels great. Plus they look fantastic!

Sell it and buy a new bike. No point in spending hundreds on wheels and forks on something that old when a newer bike probably wont be much more.

Thanks All!

That Manitou Markhor or Marvel will do. I got an adaptor for the front wheel so 9 mm is no showstopper.

Cheers
