Storing your bike vertically?

As a compromise between storing my bike in the garage (MrsJ's idea) and storing it in the bedroom (my idea) I am looking at ways to store my bike in the cloakroom. That means it will have to be vertical, back wheel on the ground, front wheel in the air, most probably against the wall. I'm looking for an effective way to do that which is secure, easy, unobtrusive.

I came across Clug stands which look ok but I don't see really how they work? Any other bright ideas? Thanks!!!

I have five bikes hanging in the garage just using the basic Park Tool hooks that are a few quid each. Screwed into a length of wood that's fixed to the wall.

Those jobsworth things are grand too.

Steady racks are good if you want to be able to pivot the bike and are easy to load- saw them in a bike shop in mallorca and look good, but are significantly pricier than a simple wall hook. Merlin have them discounted at the moment.

Not these exact ones but a different brand of these work well for me in the shed. When the bike is folded against the wall it takes up very little room.

Thanks all, as always, for the useful replies! The Jobsworths look worth a punt. I should have stressed that it needs to be something that doesn't look hideous for if the missus goes to the cloakroom (a.k.a. bike storage room) for a wee while I am out cycling 🙂

I would imagine she'll be pretty pleased with the jobsworth hook on the wall while she's having her wazz, if the alternative is a whole bicycle, no?

I've got loads of them and they work well. They are in the shed though.

Why is she weeing in the cloakroom? Or is it just in your shoes?

I used normal hooks, but removed the front wheel and put the axle back in. Turned the bars and meant I could store bikes much closer together

Jobsworth tip, stuff a tooth pick in the hinge to stop it flopping down. They’re loads easy to hook the bike into with the hook poking out at an angle.

I've got jobsworths for 5 bikes in the garage, works well. I rack mine front wheel out and hook on the thru axle, makes it less intrusive into the room.

Velo hinge might be worth a look if the space would benefit from the bike being able to be hinged towards the wall and then out again for removal? Probably not such a benefit if only one bike? Works well in my bike storage room but I’ve got multiple bikes along one wall.

galvanised pipe and fittings and meat hooks? Very adjustable.

Or just buy the version that doesn't fold? I don't get why you'd want it to fold, I assume it just makes it harder to get the wheel in, but I'm probably missing something.

Top tip number 2, put the hook high enough that the rear wheel isn't on the ground, doesn't need be much but they hang much much better slightly higher.

Did your idea also include storing Mrs J in the garage? #Bikesdon'tsnore
