I read somewhere that carbon wheels should not be hung up using the rim when not in use - is that correct? Do they need to have something passed through the hub and be hung by that? Far easier just to pop them on a hook though…
Also what’s best for cleaning carbon wheels/seat posts etc?
Our spares are hung in wheel bags high up out of the way. The ones on the bikes are hung from the garage wall by the front wheel.
Just cleaned with Muck off and soapy water like the rest of the bikes.
As Tracy, when on the bike they're hung by the front wheel. When not on the bike they're upright on a shelf. I figure if the tyres can cope with me artlessly bouncing them into rocks they will be fine supporting the wheel.
"not hung by the rim" sounds like utter nonsense to me. What do people think they're going to do? End up like one of dali's clocks?
Wheel bags sounds like a good idea - hadn’t thought of that.
it does sound a bit odd, the only thing I can think of is that hanging in one position for any length of time somehow causes problems???
Strutural carbon, hang by the rim. If it's a fairing (like on some road wheels), then don't, but you'll know as the carbon is squishy (I have some aero wheels like that).
fossy has it, it’s a hangover from when the carbon was just a fairing and could get damaged
Anyone care to recommend any wheel bags that will fit 700c wheels with tyres on …

Selcof bag from planet x is excellent. Fits 29x2.6 boost so road wheels no bother.

I wouldn't be riding an mtb rim that can't have the bike hung off it
Hanging in the garage, fine, hanging in transport like uplift or gondola where it could move and rub, nein danke.
We bought some of the Planet X double bags when they were selling them off. Had them quite a while and will take a 29er with tyre on.
Never given it a second thought when hanging on a chair lift or gondola
My double planet X wheel bags don't even come close to a 29er with an MTB tire on.
Hell they struggle with my 100mm /disk combo on 21c.
Watch which ones you get if you go down that route.
Proper bargain at that price
