I'm quickly running out of space in my garage and was thinking of using some of these http://www.wiggle.co.uk/bbb-btl-26-parkinghook-storage-hook/ to store my bikes vertically on the end wall.

From what I've been reading most people say to hang the bike by it's front wheel - I just wanted to check if there's any chance of this damaging my forks with the weight constantly hanging on them? Alternatively I could suspend them from the rear wheel.

I use those hooks but the weight isn't really on the forks it's on the back wheel which is on the floor. Never had an issue, apart from my old avid brakes didn't seem to like being stored like that, especially the back one.

Interesting, I store my bikes by hanging from back wheel. shimano brakes are ok with it, avids take a while to settle and are spongy for half hour when first taken off wall. No other issues to report though!

storing by front wheel helps to keep fork seals lubed and I fnd it easier to get bikes up onto hooks that way round for some reason.

apart from highlighting a fork seal leak and also which hydraulic brakes have not been properly bled..... no issues at all.

Front wheel here, lets that tiny bit of oil in fox forks run down and lube the upper bushings. Not had any fork wear problems for the last 5 years!

One by the front one by the rear - by 69ing it the handlebars don't get tangled up.

Front wheel here, and I stagger them so they are alternately on the foor and suspended. No issues with brakes, and I seem to remember some fork manufacturers recommending you do this to help lubricate the seals.

The amount of weight on the forks like this is nothing compared to the beating it gets on the trails, so I think you'll be ok. The force goes through the axle which is where it's designed to go in use.

Front or rear from a series of hooks in my garage, depends on bar over lap with the next bike in line, never had an issue with brakes or forks in either orientation, I suppose they get swapped about a bit though so they mostly get hung both ways.
