Anyone else going to this at the weekend?

https://www.midsummerbeerhappening.co.uk/sportive

We'll be doing the gravel ride on our MTB's as we don't have gravel bikes.

Beer and bikes is always a winner in my book.

Should be in the beer festival on Friday for some pre ride training, then definitely sampling different beers until fully refreshed on Saturday avo and evening.

@trail_rat

Shame you can't make it but good to hear it's a great event.

It has been quite a while since we last saw you and MrsTR.

Give us a shout next time you head down to the tweed valley.

Great event, even as a tea total'er

Unfortunately the weather looks far from kind for them, which is such a shame... Fingers crossed.

If it's pishing down there's always the option to ditch the ride and head straight to the beer tent. 🍻

Would love to but have plans this weekend. Shame as it's not too far from me (Aberdeen).

@zedsdead

Say Hi if you see us.

I'll be on a black Marino hardtail and Mrsstu on a light blue Nordest hardtail.

We're thinking a later start to try and avoid some of the forecast rain.

Will do!

I will be on my very old black Ritchey Enduro which has had a hard life - I think I'm going to struggle so I may very well end up in an ambulance lol

My boys are also on 26", old Kona's

I think we will start early(ish), and you will most likely catch up and pass us. I'll probably be in a heap on the verge...

@Zedsdead

I didn't see your post before the ride but now I've read that I know who you are.

We had a brief chat about your bike when we were passing you.

Hope you made it back to the finish OK?

That's the wettest I've been in a very long time.

Got back to our digs and stood fully clothed in the shower for ages trying to warm up again.

Looking forward to round two of beer sampling shortly.

We were with our mate that owns Tempest last night and a couple of beers turned into a five hour session.🍻

I was ****ing hanging on the ride this morning.🤣

Aha! Yes indeed! Oh man, the pishing rain was a scoundrel! It made for an interesting ride indeed haha!

we did indeed make it to the end but Jings it was hard work with the constant rain which softened up the ground and provided some exciting ‘river runs’ haha!

I even rode that old Ritchey down the ‘technical descents’ and didn’t fall off haha!

we camped the night before just down the road at Inverbervie.

next time I might use my old Zaskar, 26” is not dead! 💪🏼

Will give you a shout before the next one, would be cool to catch up 🙂

Fair play on the retro rig. You did better than a couple of gravelers we saw.

The ride down a burn for about a mile and a half was my favourite section.

I'd just said to Mrsstu i don't think we could possibly get any wetter then we went down that bit of "trail" and I changed my mind.

Back home now and still emptying gritty sand out of everything.

Mrsstu finished with no front brake left and I finished with no rear.

It was tough! I forgot that many years ago I had changed the cassette to a more road biased range and I was cursing it every time I had to climb lol

And as for brakes, well canti's and U-brakes were always crap, but once wet well they're 10 times worse hahaha! All they did was make a bit of noise 🤣

I enjoyed that run down through the burn and whilst it was pretty grim with the weather change, we had a right good laugh about it once we made it to the end.

I think our shoes will take a week to dry out!
