Taking advantage of everyone ditching their dumb trainers for smart trainers, lots of good deals second hand!

Seen a Cycleops Fluid 2 with the fluid resistance but also with the big fan shaped flywheel, wondering if it will be noticeably 'better' than my basic Cycleops Mag.

I'm thinking ride feel in particular, bigger flywheel = more intertia = kinder to knees?

I went from a Cyclops mag to a minoura hypermag. Much nicer. Partially there's more resistance and partially there's a heavier flywheel so feels more like riding an actual bike. Significantly quieter too.

The downside of fluid trainers is the resistance drops off a few percent as they warm up so it's less accurate if you want to use it with one of the 'virtual power' apps.

That's interesting about the resistance dropping off, I would swear my mag trainer does the same, I certainly seem to get quicker towards the end of a session...

Hotter metal= more resistance to electricity. So less current and less resistance

Smart trainers make turbo sessions far more tolerable for me, I couldn't sit on my old Elite Volare Mag for more than ~10mins before getting bored, yesterday afternoon I felt all the gradient changes of riding "Road to sky" for ~100mins until I had descended out of the Alpe Du Zwift zone using my Elite Direto.

... And the gradient simulation makes things far more interactive on undulating courses like the new Titans Grove.

Kurt kinetic if you can find one. Can get the inride smart sensor to hook it up to swift etc.

I bought one of the cheap tacx smart ones and went back to the kurt after a couple of months.

Not fussed about smart features, I do all my long rides outdoors/commuting etc. Indoor trainer for short sharp sessions, not possible to get bored!

Can't afford a posh smart trainer anyway, but £40 for a Fluid 2 is tempting.

Hear lots of good things about Kinetics, none for sale locally though..

I had a CycleOps Mag and borrowed a friends Fluid for a short time with the intention to buy if I liked it.

I didn’t take him up on the offer in the end, it was a bit nicer but not exactly night and day so I couldn’t justify it.

Hung on a while longer and snapped up second hand Kickr, cost a lot more but glad i waited.
