I hate it when people say that, what does 'not really bothered' actually mean? Or is it they gave you a realistic outlook based on the evidence at hand?

ALAS NOT REALLY BOTHERED......sorry not shouting.......basically little or no chance of getting back........the Police for some issues are pretty target focused

And cycle theft is a big issue. What would make a Bobby bothered then?

well from her experience with the police in other capacities (professional) not a lot really.....bikes are not A priority.....nor is theft or burglarly...apparently

I've had both experiences. On the one hand the local police have been helpful and concerned about vandalism to my car. On the other hand I have reported people actually in my house stealing stuff and got a very underwhelming response.

good luck with the bike Vondally - check cash converters in hillsborough \ west street over the next few days

Well, I am a police officer, in Sheffield, and cycle theft bothers me. Just coming on here saying theft/burglary and cycle theft is not a priority is actually wrong. You are wrong. I am very much bothered when things people treasure are taken from them by scum bags, as are my colleagues, but I am also realistic. All that can be done will be done but often, as with any crime, if there are no leads or any evidence then what can be done? To the OP, I will see who is dealing with your daughters bike theft tomorrow and see if the bobby who is dealing is really bothered or not. I will also check to see if there are any leads.

Trevor.

I ride with a few coppers down in the SE and recently a Norco DH was left in a local high street, unlocked, completely unattended. Naturally it was nicked and the next morning the team briefing included the bike complete with fairly detailed description, ebay results, a few pictures from the net and the owner. A pretty good response from the police really, although on the surface it would appear to be almost nothing. Its not something that can easily be investigated unless its spotted being sold or ridden.

Loads of bike robberies in sheffield, it's been really consistently bad for a while now.

Hi police officer in Doncaster. Nicked someone today for a bike theft. We are bothered trust me, am not going to get on my soap box regarding the justice system but we all know it's shit and they get off far to lightly. I will past the details around the Doncaster cops to keep an eye out for it in Doncaster as scum do travel.

Was this spotted on eBay? Read something at work but can't find it on eBay? Trevor.

I'd say the police in Sheffield are bothered. Bothered enough to wake me up at 1.30 am one night this week cos someone had reported scumbags in and out of back gardens on our road. They had noticed an open shed door and wanted me to check nothing was missing. They were more bothered about it than me at that point to be honest as its an old shed full of crap rather than expensive bikes so never bother locking it. Having the plod come out in the middle of the night and nosey about may well have stopped the scumbags trying to get into the bike shed though. 😀

Hello yes we reported it to police as on ebay.
First response from the police was to ask daughter to contact seller and get address, followed by call to say they had the number from ebay people.
Police visited yon seller who said he was not the seller and was selling it for a mate, police offered some encouragement for him to consider options. Said they would be in touch with him and asked my daughter to let them get in touch with her.
The bike was soldfor 488 pounds ds and seller had to pay cash on collection that was on Thurs.
Thanks for the reply Trevor.

O/T..I was in and out of gardens on our cul de sac recently in just my boxers looking for a crim.

Our knackered shed door was open.

Why do people leave bikes in sheds? Insurance or not. Madness.

because again some of us have too!
When I bought my house I made sure it had inside storage for them, when I moved in with the Mrs, her house is tiny with no room inside but a 90 foot garden.

I had no option than to buy a new shed to store them in. I don't like it but its the only option.

So the officer dealing at least knows who the seller is then, that's good. I will have a decent look at the crime report later, was a tad busy last night!

Blah blah, I've no option...
I used to live in a 1 room, 36M² flat with the missus. I had 4 bikes in there at one point.
If you really value your bikes, keep em inside.
Strategic use of space pays off for bike storage.
