You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I posted yesterday but asked the mods to delete the thread as there was a chance the police were going to catch the scrote who burlged us and I didn't want to scare him off if he saw the thread. Unfortunately when they arrested him, the bikes weren't at his address so he's been let out 'under investigation'. Little to no chance of the police recovering the bikes from him directly now.
So here we go again. Green medium Rocket with black Lyriks, SRAM wheels, green and black saddle.
Unbranded (LTK) carbon road bike framset with short black stem and Planet x bars
Prime Race Disc wheelset
Mavic Crossmx SL Pro LTD - yellow hubs
If anyone sees anything like this being advertised, please let me know! I'm watching the obvious facebook groups, but if anyone has suggestions for groups well known for scrotes flogging stolen goods, plese post them up here!
Cheers,
Bump for Monday morning...
http://findthatbike.co.uk/search.php?searching=yes&s=rocket
There's a green medium rocket in that search, but advert looks like it's either legit or very well done...
Yeah, that one is also on Pinkbike, and although very similar, it's a different bike.
Cheers,
Bump - bike has been spotted in SW Sheffield. Keep your eyes open please!
where abouts -i'm in that area? Will keep my eyes super peeled. Post it on bike_revive on insta and Bikerevivesheffield on FB
As above, I'm around and abouts that area, is there a picture of your bike?
It was seen on St James retail park.
I'm slightly cautious about putting too much info online, as if the little scrote sees it, it might make recovery more difficult. It's a bright green frame, DT Swiss wheels, black Lyriks, black/gold coil shock. Fairly distintive.
Cheers,
Thanks OP, I'm currently spending most of my days out and about around Lowedges and Jordanthorpe so will keep an eye out. In fairness, your bike will somewhat stand out around there. Fingers crossed mate.
Thanks!
Result! The police have got it back! Not sure what state it'll be in. Not managed to get any of the other stuff, but this is a Good Day 🙂
Good news!
Chuffed for you pal! 👍
Fantastic news.
What do bike thieves get for a sentence these days?
Do they even get prosecuted?
Mowgli.
Great news that you have some progress.
This is a general question:
How do these scumbags know you have bikes in the property?
Do they look for tell tale signs like a car outside with roof bars on or bike boxes in the recycling.?
Do they see you cleaning bikes outside the front?
Do they check strava for riders starting/finishing rides rides in the area?
I'm always careful to make sure I leave no clues, as I'm sure most are... So how do these guys know where to look..?
Or is it pure chance when they are actually looking for anything, or are they targeting bikes??
My particular scumbags didn't know there were bikes - the other aspecs of the bulglary point to it being opportunistic. One of the scrotes has been linked to another burglary up the road a few weeks ago. I think if it was targetted, the bike wouldn't have been recovered. I'd found the first one of them trying to flog it on facebook the day after he stole it, and the other was caught on CCTV at some shops a couple of miles away, by a quick thinking staff member who could tell the bike was too expensive to be owned by such a rancid scally.
We did feel perhaps a little complacent, as the bikes were in the house rather than shed or garage, and I don't have a roof carrier for the car. We just got unlucky. Needless to say, security has been considerably improved in the last week!
When two of ours were taken we were clocked unloading the van after our Alps trip. They came back two days later. Busted the garage roller door and even with the alarm ringing and our daughter in the house it didn't deter them. My car was out of the garage for the first time in 8 weeks to give it a run and put some fuel in. It took 3 months for us to figure out how they new the car was out.
The police response including the helicopter couldn't catch them. They went to ground very quick.
Our neigbour had it all on CCTV so we knew it was the same lads who had seen us unloading. They were wearing the same kit. They came back on a regular basis for another bike but by that time the security had been upped quite a bit.
Police eventually pulled them one night and warned them off.
Still worry about it
Glad you got your bike back OP, Cotic Rockets are a thing of beauty.
A few people have mentioned the 'bike rack' issue. Given they're such a giveaway, incredibly easy to fit and remove and add loads of drag when left on cars unnecessarily, why do folks leave them on?
I guess people leave them on because they may use them regularly and the roof mounted bars aren't that quick to install or remove either.
Drag is minimal in most cases I expect.
