Had it stolen from a garage in Didsbury last night, and it's not insured as I was in between houses and cancelled the old policy (bike was taken from the in-law's garage).
Frame was black with gold stickers, in Large.

Will keep an eye out in south manc.
Those totems will stick out a mile!
If you're on Twitter it's worth getting the word out on there and asking gmpchorlton and gmpdidsbury to retweet. Same with local shops, nwmtb, bikedoctor and ken fosters.
Heaton Moor here, I'll keep 'em peeled.
Cheers guys - I've tried to spread it on twitter as best as possible but I'll contact those above too.
north - just sent an email to you re this.

I'm in Didsbury myself. Last week, whilst I was at home, the police knocked on my door and asked if I had time to do a survey. I said yes and cut a long story short, we started talking about bikes and bike thefts, myself being a victim of bike theft a few years ago.
There is a few people who habitually steal bikes and the police know who they are. When they are in jail, bike theft drops and vice versa. Thus if you report it, the police might pay some people a visit on the off chance it was them.
They also said of an occasion where they left a bike tied up with a tracker in it, and also left an iPad in unlocked car. Once said items were stolen they knew exactly whee to look. The iPad lasted a week.
I was quite suprised at the amount of work the police actually do behind the scenes to try and get these people.
They also said they have hundreds of recovered bikes at the Elizabeth Slinger police station, and actually returned someone's bike before he had reported it stolen!
I'll keep an eye out, a gold patriot to me would stick out like a saw thumb.
Hope you get it back. But you can hep yourself by reporting it, if you haven't already done so.

I have reported to the police and shared photos with them, I'm not expecting it to turn up but you can but hope. It seems a bad area for theft, I foolishly must have left the car unlocked a couple of months back overnight and hsd my tools nicked from the boot - people target the area opportunistically I reckon.
Cheers for the info - I will let you know if I do hear any further.

Gutted.
I live in Didsbury (awaits massive flaming) so I'll keep an eye out. That bike actually sounds like one I would instantly recognise.
Seems to be a real problem around here and South Manchester in general, I know people who have been followed home from club meets by guys in a car, obviously scoping out.
Get some pics up!
Subbed, will keep an eye out.

I'm struggling to get photos up hear, mainly as I don't have Internet at new home yet so I'm doing this from my phone.
Hopefully this link to twitter above works for people - top lad Peaty as always for the retweet!
Hopefully this link to twitter above works for people
It doesn't I'm afraid, you've got some random letters on the end. Try this;

Bingo - cheers mate.
Crap news that fella... will keep an eye out for you down here ( Wilmslow ) Hope you get it back
I'll keep an eye out, I'm in northern moor so see a fair few mismatched bikes/riders.
Thanks mate - not a great situation but my faith in mankind has been rebuilt by somewhat by all the useful retweets and general sympathy over the last 24hrs from all the fellow bikers I've never met.
will keep a lookout in north manchester.
if my experiance of GMP regarding bike theft is anything to go by then you'll be lucky if they make any effort to look into the case.
keep a lookout on the usual places online like pinkbike, ebay, gumtree etc
there are a few mtb buy and sell groups on facebook too that you should keep a lookout on.
also post up any pictures you have on here so at least people know what they're looking for.
Cheers Gonzy
I can't fault the police so far, they've popped round a couple of times and also made some other direct contact that's way above what i'd expected.
That said I think these bikes often disappear underground to wherever their black market exists, so they've really got their work cut out to work out where they end up. My thoughts are they either get broken up for parts or sold overseas; I've never been offered a knock off mtb on the cheap over the many years nor seen any scallys out on the trails on an Ibis, Patriot, etc.
Anyhow - lets all hope for a miracle!
I'm just down the road in St Retford- will keep a lookout. From time to time I do see scrotes on nice bikes around Water park/St Retord way.
northernlite - i'm glad to hear GMP are being more proactive for you.
my sentiments are the same as yours that usually the thief will lay low for a while with that bike then they will either try to sell it cheaply on the black market or will strip it down and get rid of it in bits.
with my case the scrote sold it to a local cash generator store so keep a look at those types of shops too.
i've heard that there is a group of ratbags based in the stockport area who are heavily onto this...they have a network of associates dotted around the manchester area who usually spot the bikes in their locations and pass the info onto them to hit the houses.
from what i gather the police are aware of those involved in this but have never been able to catch them red-handed.
i'm still waiting to read about one of them being caught in the act by a fellow bike owner and given a dose of divine justice...oh how it will make me smile when it happens!
but like i said...get some pictures posted of the bike. i'm on smoe of these facebook buy/sell pages so i dont mind posting it up on there for you. hopefully someone might have seen it and may do the right thing.
I'm down M16 way, I'll keep an eye out.
Could you not claim on your inlays insurance? You could pay the excess for them and any increase in next years premium.
You might not get the full value but even £1k would help.
I know that things have moved on but when I had a bike stolen years ago the insurance company actually paid out more that what my policy was for.
Good luck anyway.
eyes peeled around the chorlton end of M21 here.
Curvature - definitely not covered by the policy, AXA exclude bicycles from household contents. They even called them and played ignorance, but got the same message. Never mind, thanks for the advice though.
xher - cheers for keeping an eye out!
will keep eyes out for it around S.Cem end of M21

Isn't this a sort of folklaw everywhere though? There are gangs in Edinborough, Leeds, Birmingham, London mentioned on here recently. It may be no where near as elaborate as some believe, simply opportunistic crackheads/chavs after an easy few hundred quid.
AXA exclude bicycles from household contents.
Does it specifically say this in the insurance documents? They may be trying to pull a fast one. Perhaps don't take no for an answer and maybe refer to the financial ombudsman?
Where the taken from your car? Thus your car insurance might apply?
I think I saw the orange being ridden on edge lane from Stretford to Chorlton today, I was in a car going the other way at the time, couldn't do owt about it 🙁
Caught my eye first due to wide handlebars, proper looking bike, with not proper looking rider
Not too far away myself, will keep 'em peeled...

not entirely true OP.
is the insurance through AXA or are they the underwriters?
my insurance is through Halifax and underwritten by AXA. when my dh bike got pinched they tried to pull a fast one. the bike valued at £3.5k but the cover was sold to saying that any single unspecified item up to a max of £3k was covered. adding the extra £500 would have increased the premium so i was happy with a £3k valuation without increasing the premiums. when it came to claim they said as it was in an outbuilding it was only covered up to a max of £2k, which they never mentioned to me.
i kicked off and put in a complaint and threatened them with the FOS...they relented and checked how the insurance was sold to me and agreed they had got it wrong and paid me out.
check the policy notes to see how things are worded. i get the feeling they are trying to wriggle out of this one.
Also M21/Chorlton so will keep eyes peeled, as always, for mismatched bikes and riders.
Good luck.
Snowslave - only just seen this now. What time of day was it? Frustrating as I'd probably have jumped in the car and trawled the place.
Pretty certain it would have been mine - 800mm bars stand out a mile.
I'd love to catch the scrote.
If anyone else spots it again can you direct message me, ad I'll definitely pick that up right away.
check your mail!
