Coming home after a fantastic time away at Belladrum to an open garage door and a severely depleted collection of bikes was a sad way to end the weekend.
Whoever they were they took my much loved blue Specialized Pitch Comp,(red Superstar bars and stem, upgraded Pikes, RP3 shock, XT and Zee, Stans Wheels, red and black SDG Bel Air saddle (the only original part on it was the seatpost!)), my newly built (from old and second-hand parts) Dialled Love/Hate Singlespeed that I'd not even had a chance to ride (Surly 1x1 forks, Mavic XC717 wheels, RaceFace cranks, Cotic seat post and red and black SDG Bel Air saddle) and my wife's custom-sprayed metallic purple Marin Rocky Ridge (Revelation forks, SRAM X7 drivetrain, brown Selle Italia saddle, complete with pink butterfly decals!) that I built up for her a few years ago. They were worth a lot more in memories than they would be now in pounds. Although I'm resigned to the fact that they'll most likely not be seen again if you see anything matching those descriptions in or around Edinburgh, on eBay or Gumtree then please let me or the police know. Cheers.
The silver lining to this is that being away meant having a quality headphone disco rave to 90's techno with my 13 year old son at his first festival, worth more than any of the bikes…...
Really sorry to hear that. Where in Edinburgh are you and did your neighbours get done as well? the fact that you got comprehensively cleaned out maybe means they knew what they were doing, which in turn suggests they'll end up further afield that Edinburgh. Do you have snaps of your bikes? I'll certianly keep my eyes peeled.
Location plastered all over Facebook? I often berate my gf for doing that, an open invitation to a burglary.
Hope you get your stuff back.
In the Alnwickhill area. Neighbours untouched. Photos of the bikes here:

worth sending a description and photos to all the glasgow shops. stolen bikes often travel down the m8 to be sold
Have a look on a Facebook group called "Lothian bikes for sale or swap"
Thanks for the posts and advice, will see what comes of it all.
Worth checking Gumtree. A colleague's nicked bike (Edinburgh) ended up on Gumtree within 24hrs, despite us discussing that no one would be that stupid. It was alongside the other nine bikes the fella had nicked the same weekend...and still the police didn't apprehend him! 😯
Police will only deal with stolen bikes on Gumtree if you arrange to see the bikes at a fixed address. In my case I could only get the police along to the meeting by accusing the police call handler of having no interest in retrieving stolen bikes. I got my bike back though I don't think the guy who "sold" me my bike was charged (not the thief, just a family in a very smart house in north Edinburgh that do a line in dodgy cars, phones and bikes; well known in the area but mysteriously the law won't touch them).
Some good news. After an email from a fellow STW'er (thanks Aidy) who'd seen my Dialled Love/Hate on Gumtree, I headed down to the police station and gave them the info. They took a statement and got a warrant and recovered the bike! Really helpful service from the officers at Howdenhall. No sign of the other two unfortunately and I'm less optimistic as time goes by but getting even one bike back is rare enough it seems so I am going straight out on it today for a play! Thanks again to Aidy for spotting the ad in the first place.
That's brilliant news. I'm in East Lothian and will definitely keep my eyes open. Fair play to the police for making the effort after hearing all the stories to the contrary.
