Love it and equally hate it. How does it compare/what are the hardest Calderdale climbs?
The buttress is a beast, but not sure if that counts!
you need to do the Ronde

Best single days ride (on or off road, in or outside the UK) I did in 2013.
Long route possibly sold out for 2015, worth checking, we did it last 2 years only reason we're not making the trip (from Oxford) again is we are doing Paris Roubaix that weekend.
You can find the route/gpx/strava online. Theyve previously done caps and arm warmers with the route profile on as the "freebie", not announced what 2015's is but the RvC-badged beer sounds like its here to stay.
You may also 'enjoy' Mytholm Steeps, Shibden Wall (Both in RvC?) and the Penny Steps from Mankinholes to Stoodley Pike.
I think coming down Stocks lane on a damp day convinced me that there is a time and place for disc brakes on road bikes. Haven't been up yet but Mytholm Steeps is quite tasty.
First ever ride on a proper road bike was up Mytholm Steeps. That was interesting.
At least it had a compact chain set. It's hard enough driving up there sometimes!
Only ever gone down Stocks Lane, take care on the corners!
hora all the roads up out of the valley from Hebden,Tod,Mytholmroyd are a challenge but doable.A bit harder when you link them in one route 😉
Mytholm Steeps is prob.the hardest for me and Bacup Road when there's a winter gale blowing down it, is a challenge,my slowest time was nearly ten minutes behind my best.
Cross Stone Rd/Hey Head Lane ,Shore rd,Carr rd,Doghouse Lane,Shaw Wood Rd,Heptonstall Road,A6033 Oxenhope Rd,Horsehold Rd,Waterboard Hill,Midgley Rd,Scout Rd....there's loads and loads.Crown Point and Woodplumpton in Burnley too easily fitted into loops out of Tod
Cragg Rd is probably one of the easiest around here and is better as a descent with the climb up to Blackstone edge first
I was going to add another fave but nick has it covered - up 'Carr rd' off Burnley Rd at Cornholme. One 'missing' (unless I've got the name wrong) is, I think, called Hill House Edge Lane above Oxenhope to Warley Moor Resvr...must be as hard or harder than Mytholm Steeps.
Waterboard hill is one of the Strava names for Hill House edge lane 🙂
hora, just get on Strava if you aren't already, and follow other people's routes. You can compare yourself to TDF riders,Commonwealth and Olympic medallists and good old club riders. Then you'll realise you need a new lighter carbon bike with carbon tubs 😉
Steeps and wall- any postcodes for these for me to try them? Im on the list for the Ronde 😀
At the top of Stocks lane I turned down into Mixinden (sp?) And rode round to Oxenhope. I hope my legs work tomorrow as I want to ride off road 🙁
full / long version of steeps...

just checked the gradient shown in Strava...shows 37.1% at one point (may not be totally accurate but...!)

It's not particularly steep ( certainly not as steep as some of those posted above), but there is the long haul out from Mytholmroyd on Cragg Road up through Cragg Vale to Blackstone Edge, which I believe is the longest continuous climb in England. It's a pretty tough one in its own drawn out way. If you want to put some climbing miles in your legs, you could certainly do a lot worse than session that a few times..
Started off on that. On the drive in I measured it at 4.9milss I think.
Mytholm Steeps is a beast, the turns get tighter and steeper so you have to use more energy, then the top bit looms before you, looking easy but is actually really steep.
First couple of times had me off just before the final left hand bend, when I finally got up it I was looking at the world through a red mist of pain!
Hora - dead easy to find, left turn off the main road opposite the Heptonstall turning circle as you are heading into Hebden.
Where is this stocks lane of which you speak?

POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST
From Luddenden Foot main road head up towards Midgely. Swing right at first junction through village. Then keep going up.
Here are a few, that combined make a great little loop especially if you like cobbles - include Hebden Bridge and Oxenhope to make it a bit longer...
Halifax Lane (parallel to Stocks Lane) http://www.strava.com/segments/6690955
Trooper Lane http://www.strava.com/segments/3448719
Shibden Wall http://www.strava.com/segments/6690966
Gibb Lane http://www.strava.com/segments/2468176
There's also a cheeky little cobbled climb behind the pub in Luddendon but it's only on Strava as a run.
Friend took me up a climb to 'the great rock', that was a t!at of a climb.
Will keep an eye on this thread. Ride over HB each Tuesday night so good ammo for future rides. New to the area so it's all new to me.
