You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Please do not use the station to lock bikes up, a Felt, Jamis and now a Voodoo Hoodoo have been stolen in the last fortnight.
The thief clearly knows what they are looking for as there are loads of bikes locked up every day and then as soon as a nice one is on the station it lasts a day or two.
Frustrating thing is there is very little we can do as staff to stop it. The cameras don't point at the bike rack and the police can't get the thiefs face on camera. It's someone who walks past me every day.
I'm so annoyed and feel guilty because yesterday when the Hoodoo turned up I was going to go and ask him about the bike because my mate nearly bought one last month and to tell him to make sure it's locked up and not to leave it for too long. Unfortunately the lad had gone before I got across to speak to him and now he's been robbed.
Leaving "decent" bikes at public places is never a good idea. I used to use an old 1992* MTB to get to/from my local station and a scrote even tried to rob that.
* not some retro-classic but it does have XT thumbies and a flex-stem, p'haps said scrote was a retro-freak 😆
The tea leaf clearly knows his stuff, there are loads of dogs of bikes left on the station overnight or for weeks on end, the moment anything half decent is there it disappers.
I'm making this my mission to catch him in the act now.
Sounds like an easy arrest if the fuzz actually gave a crap. All forces should have GPS sting bikes, such an easy way to catch a thief.
If you do see the thief, follow him home; the outcome could be a lot more interesting.
Now you would have thought that if ever there was a situation for a police sting that could possibly lead to a whole racket of bike thefts then this is it.
Bike theft around Greater Manchester is rife. More bikes went missing from Hyde just last week. I know several people from the Stockport area that have had their garage roof torn off to get at the bikes. There's also a racket in Manchester hijacking bike deliveries and buying bikes with stolen credit cards.
It p1sses me off that these are all treated as individual cases or as insurance issues when quite clearly there are gangs in Manchester running all these different methods together to acquire bikes and generate an income.... and where do they think all the money goes that they generate from these bikes ? It's not new cars or a house in Prestbury that's for sure, I've no doubt it's to fund other more lucrative crime like drugs.
the outcome could be a lot more interesting.
Nothing like a blade slotted between your ribs for relieving boredom.
Is the bike rack outside the station or the one on the platform? Were these bikes left overnight?
Since getting my new bike im super paranoid about it being stolen. Im now looking on ebay for a commuting hacker so i dont have to leave my new one chained up at work all day. Even tho I double lock it there would be no stopping somebody pinching it, if they really want it they will find a way to pinch it.
The bikes that have gone have been from the racks on the platforms.
Bike theft is not a priority for the police at the moment
Due to govt cuts, reducing officers we have to concentrate on vehicle crime, robberies and burglaries
I suggest you vote labour at he next election if you want more police!
That's not to say if there are a series of thefts in a particular area the local area bobbies won't set up an operation
Very sad times for British policing at he moment 😥
Then again if it a theft from the platform it will be for British transport police to sort, so you may or may not get a better response from them.
It should also be the responsibility of the station to upgrade CCTV, or security measures
We are all,in this together remember
Platform 4. Somebody needs to have a word with the young guy who gets on the Buxton train around 4;30pm. His white Carrera looks like it is likely to be next.
These are by no means high end bikes which doesn't mean to say their theft is any less a crime. More that even your hack bike is a target.
The Felt for instance (as best as I can remember) was Sora equipped and the Voodoo was Acera.
It's nothing to do with the station to upgrade CCTV. We've banged on to network rail for years to upgrade it.
Which platform does the lad leave his carrera? Ill try and have a word, it can't be platform 4 because no Buxton trains go from 4.
Is platform 4. He locks it up in the chelsea stands when he gets off at platform 4 in the morning and collects it on the way back home and then goes to platform 0 (I think).
A black and white basic level Giant Defy was also having its locks weighed up on Friday.
The person sat in the the small tuck shop in between 3 & 4 probably has an excellent view. The missing person board might get in the way a bit though.
I spent quite a lot of time at Stockport station last week.
I'd email you directly but their isn't an email in your profile.
Do you not think we share too much detail on public forums too?
I kind of think the horse has already bolted though. By discussing this, two guys might not get their bikes nicked this week and the guy in the coffee shop might keep an eye out.
Yin and yang and all that.
Quite a lot of merseyrail stations have secure bike cages, descent lights, roler shutter doors, mesh sides so passengers can look in, and card access, funded by merseyrail and the local councls .
Where as Stockport BTP, may be looking for fare dodgers or drunks, as opposed to bike theives, and network rail want invest any cash as theyre wasting millions on bham new street, and cross rial etc etc, eg all down south.
Monksie my email address is jonnyhindley at hotmail dot co dot uk
I'm on lates from Wednesday so anytime your on the station after say 2pm drop me an email and I will bob over for a chat with you, get a description of the bloke you see.
Ill have a mooch over to platform 4 and leave a note one the carrera on Wednesday if its there too.
Project, there is no Stockport BTP mate, we have to call Piccadilly to help us out.
Complete joke is that.
